Leave the country with whatever you want on your device. Just delete it all when coming back in through customs if you feel the need. You can always reload it when home assuming you have files saved on your home computer.

She started writing HP in *1990* and wrote it mostly in cafes. Laptops were very rare and very expensive at that time, and - in those pre-WWW days - even desktops were not very common for home use by people who weren't students, gamers, or programmers. And as you can find in her biography: "Working at Amnesty International, Rowling discovered one thing to like about life as a secretary: she could use the computer to type up her own stories during quiet times. " She also wrote the second book on computer, presumably because she now had enough money from the first book to buy one. I'm not sure what she really thinks about e-readers, but she's clearly not some sort of neo-luddite technophobe. |

The Harry Potter series is one set of books that could really make ePub shine vs. AZW/Mobipocket. When you have all the same fonts as in the paper books, then it will shine instead of having graphics scanned where the fonts change. So the ePub could look just like the paper editions in that way. It would be really neat.

I won't speculate on her motives, but let me defend her on the charge of supposed hypocrisy b/c she allows her books to be adapted into movies etc. Movies are a separate art form and are their own entities. I certainly don't think of those movies as Rowling's, but the studio's and the respective directors'. They stand on their own, as do the books.
