![]() The 650 was not working at all so couldn't tell anything. It was the 350 I thought looked shiny and the print wasn't as nice as the Kindle. But I couldn't actually look at a book! When I went to Walmart I couldn't believe they had a 300 on display and nothing else. Does Border have them displayed? I read a posting here they sell them, didn't know that before I went looking today. I went to Target and couldn't believe they no longer carry Sony, that is where I bought my 505. I didn't notice the screen on the 350 looking like the Kindle print and they are both suppose to be pearl. |

The only thing that I can think of is to go to SonyStyle.com and click on "Find on-line or in store" underneath the price. Put in your zip and see what comes up. I hope you're able to find one. I really love mine, so much that I gave away the 600 and will give away the 505 because with the 650 on the book shelf, I'll never use either of those.

Several stores in my area are still displaying the discontinued 300/600. They have marked them on sale at $149/$179. People buying them as gifts or unaware of the different model numbers end up over paying for the old readers.
I don't know sonys responsibility in this, but it seems a good method for alienating your costumers. |

Borders is selling the new Sony models, but my store only has the 350 on display.
The Kindle 3 and the new Sonys (350/650) all have the same Pearl eInk screen. The 650's screen isn't shiny at all, so I would suspect it was the older 600 model you saw. |

Heck, I even screwed up, asked for $20 off by accident, got that cleared and had to re-ask for the $30 which they still accommodated. Calling is the way to go. Another thread reported the PRS-350 is as fast as the PRS-600, stated by a highly trustworthy user. That makes it about 2x the PRS-505, which also includes the significantly better screen. However, I still do not recommend trading a PRS-505 for a PRS-350. It's got a great screen anyway, renders LRF perfectly, requires less "clicks" to access your book list, doesn't need a stylus (if you don't want fingerprints on the 350), and is better on one-handded use. -Pie |

I attended a focus group, and the Sony had a microscopically glossier screen that the Kindle 3. I did a side-by-side, and after looking for several minutes, I noticed it. It is so slight, I am not kidding when I say microscopic. There is no way you could tell unless you had the two side-by-side... and really examined it. With my own PRS-650, I don't notice it at all, and wonder if it was maybe just the demo unit they had in the focus group. And trust me, I've looked for the glossiness. The previously mentioned PRS-600 is horribly glossy due to the overlay -- and I agree that's probably what you saw. It's so bad, I was happy to rid myself of it, especially for the $75 trade in. The Kindle 3 also uses a much better font than Sony Readers. To me, that made a real difference. I would bet dollars to donuts that's what you really noticed if you were looking at a PRS-650 or PRS-350. I've even searched online for the Kindle font to use on the Reader, but haven't tried it yet. -Pie Last edited by EatingPie; 12-29-2010 at 03:46 PM. |

I ordered the Kindle 3 Wireless 2 days ago and it shows won't be shipped til Jan 4-10. Guess they are overselling too. Now I am having second thoughts, but is seems like the readers are scarce to see or even get. As you mentioned the font was better on the Kindle. I just noticed it was really super easy to navigate and read, so maybe I shouldn't second guess myself. I also have read some things at mobileread that some people have problems with the Kindle freezing (the sony 505 did that at the beginning) and a loose part in some of them. The waiting is killing me. It seemed all of the Sony's had a gloss more than the Kindle, so perhaps they were all older ones, since I don't know what the 600 or 300 look like I can't say. |

Once when I bought a set of a speakers, I found a set I really liked, but continued shopping all over town. I ended up in an audiophile store, and the guy was showing me some speakers in my price range, which he claimed were better than the ones I told him I liked. After I listened, I expressed some doubt because I couldn't side-by-side the sound quality. The guy paused for a minute, looked at me, and said "You know what I've discovered in this business? If you find something you really like, that's the one you should go with because everything else is just second guessing yourself." You liked the Kindle, so stick it out for the next week, and I'm betting you're going to love it! Don't second guess your decision at this point; especially since none of us were there with you (even though we're here for you!)! ![]() Worse case scenario: you hate the Kindle, or just decide you like the Sony better? Amazon has a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. But I'm betting you'll love the Kindle. Heck, I've owned the Sony Readers since the original PRS-500, and even I like the Kindle 3 enough to consider one! -Pie Last edited by EatingPie; 12-31-2010 at 02:12 PM. |

I FINALLY talked my son into upgrading his PRS-505 for a PRS-350. The PRS-505 was functional but the side page-turn keys and 8 key no longer worked.
So we took it to the Sony store...but since the sale is over and I couldn't talk them into going back to the sale price, I just took the $75 gift card and told them I would wait. |

Call Sony Style! 1-877-865-7669. I purchased a PRS-650 at the $30 off price when the Sony Style stores and Sony Style online both did not have it with the discount, plus they tacked on (off?) the $75.00 and gave me free 2-day shipping. It was sold out the next day. Just two days ago, I asked them to honor the $30 off on the PRS-350 even though the sale was over, and they did... then tacked on (off?) my $75.00. Free shipping again, but I just accepted the slow boat since I have a Reader in hand. -Pie |

![]() Then it was the 350 I saw. That was a great salesman who told you to go with what you like initially. I saw a video at Youtube of the Kindle and Sony side by side, and he explained that the Sony is recessed from the frame and that causes some shadowing. Maybe that is what I saw. I still like my Sony 505 and I think I just didn't want a touch screen. I have an Ipod Touch and I have to clean that screen every day. Maybe the next generation of Sony readers will be more attractive to me then. Until then I can't wait til Monday! ![]() |

Credits?
Has anyone gotten their credit recently? I sent mine in almost 2 weeks ago and I have not heard anything since. I keep checking but see they supposedly have not received it yet. Should I be worried?

Thanks. My PRS-505 screen cracked in early December. I traded it in on a new PRS-350. Loving it!

From what I've been reading on this thread, and including my own experience, it typically takes around 7 to 8 days from the day the reader is shipped to the day the confirmation email with the credit is sent out. If it's been 14 days for you, you should probably contact them. Then again, your package could have been swept up in the craziness of USPS holiday mail.

I was about to buy the PRS-350 (I prefer the PRS-600, but right now it's too expensive for me and I don't know if there will be a sale before my coupon ends at the end of this month), but it seems the $75 discount is good until March 31st.
![]() Do you think that's accurate? The email said the coupon was valid until January 31st. Maybe I should wait until the 600 goes on sale again. |
