Just thought I'd mention that I just canceled my membership from the Groupon offer and was able to immediately sign up for the Prime 3 month Audible trial.

$0.99 -- Find the Good -- Heather Lende/ Heather Lende --> 2.7 hrs/ R-4.1 --> self help

Quote:
Find the Good: Unexpected Life Lessons From a Small-Town Obituary Writer

Whispersync: Audible ($0.99) | Kindle ($9.99)

As she was digging deep into the lives of community members, Heather Lende, the obituary writer for her tiny hometown newspaper in Haines, Alaska, began to notice something. Even the crustiest old Alaskan sourpuss who died in a one-room cabin always had Halloween candy for the neighborhood kids, and the eccentric owner of the seafood store who regularly warned her about government conspiracies knew how to be a true friend - his memorial service was packed.

When Lende started intentionally seeking what was positive and true in people and situations in her own life - whether it was finding common ground with her opponents on the school board or accepting that her unmarried daughter's pregnancy might be a blessing - she felt happier, and life seemed more meaningful, too. Awful events - from a recent school shooting across the country to a fisherman drowning in Haines - are always followed by dozens and dozens of good deeds. When tragedy strikes, we can choose to focus on the first responders rushing toward the scene or the guys grilling hot dogs for hurricane refugees, and, like yawning, caring is contagious. There's so much to gain by taking responsibility for your own happiness and nothing to lose. In stormy times like these, we have to make our own good weather, and Find the Good shows us how.

$2.99 -- Girl in a Band -- Kim Gordon/ Kim Gordon --> 7.2 hrs/ R-4.3 --> memoir

Quote:
Girl in a Band: A Memoir

Whispersync: Audible ($12.99) | Kindle ($9.99)

Kim Gordon, founding member of Sonic Youth, fashion icon, and role model for a generation of women, now tells her story - a memoir of life as an artist, of music, marriage, motherhood, independence, and as one of the first women of rock and roll, written with the lyricism and haunting beauty of Patti Smith's Just Kids.

Often described as aloof, Kim Gordon opens up as never before in Girl in a Band. Telling the story of her family, growing up in California in the '60s and '70s, her life in visual art, her move to New York City, the men in her life, her marriage, her relationship with her daughter, her music, and her band, Girl in a Band is a rich and beautifully written memoir.

Gordon takes us back to the lost New York of the 1980s and '90s that gave rise to Sonic Youth, and the alternative revolution in popular music. The band helped build a vocabulary of music - paving the way for Nirvana, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, and many other acts. But at its core, Girl in a Band examines the route from girl to woman in uncharted territory, music, art career, what partnership means - and what happens when that identity dissolves.

Evocative and edgy, filled with the sights and sounds of a changing world and a transformative life, Girl in a Band is the fascinating chronicle of a remarkable journey and an extraordinary artist.

They just don't love me. I'm not eligible for the Prime 3-month Audible trial--which I never used before--because I'm not a new Audible customer. So how come everyone else manages to sign up and cancel and sign up and cancel, and I, after being a long-term member until my recent cancellation, get denied?

I haven't tried any of the other offers yet--it looks like the 99-cent one will work, but it doesn't seem fair that this one won't.

No idea why it won't work for you. I was going to do the $.99 offer TM had mentioned a week or two ago after canceling his Groupon offer membership, but figured I'd try this one first. In the past I've never been eligible for this offer, but this time it worked. I was a member from 2004 to 2013 before canceling and getting on the cancel/renew with trial merry-go-round so definitely not a new customer of any kind.

I even got the Prime deal and I'm a big time merry-go-rounder. Don't know what say other than to keep trying. I don't always get a deal the first time I try. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts over several months or even a year or so.

WS Deal on Peter F. Hamilton Sci Fi Is Over $47 Less than the Audio Alone at Audible!

Full disclosure: If you are a member of Audible, however, you can get the audio alone for just one credit (amazingly). However, comparing the prices of the Whispersync deal and the Audible audiobook in pure dollar terms, this is by far the best Whispersync deal that I've ever found.

There is much to say about the audiobook and book, especially of a commendatory nature; I encourage you to look over all of the info on the webpage for the ebook at Amazon, especially. The one characteristic of the audiobook that "jumps out" to me, however, is the fact that it is over 36 1/2 hours long! Some people may consider that a good thing; some people may consider that a bad thing. As an ineradicable bargain hunter, I am in the first camp--I love the bang for the buck and punch for the pound in this deal.

Title: Great North Road.
Genre: Fiction (Sci Fi/Adventure).
Author(s): Peter F. Hamilton.
Price: $6.48 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $4.49 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $53.95 (1 credit).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.2 stars/529 reviews (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.3/1560 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 946/36 hours and 37 minutes.
Narrator(s): Toby Longworth.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fan...ok/B00ATTA71O/.
Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Great-North-R.../dp/B008GP4E62.

Book Description (Amazon):
A century from now, thanks to a technology allowing instantaneous travel across light-years, humanity has solved its energy shortages, cleaned up the environment, and created far-flung colony worlds. The keys to this empire belong to the powerful North family—composed of successive generations of clones. Yet these clones are not identical. For one thing, genetic errors have crept in with each generation. For another, the original three clone “brothers” have gone their separate ways, and the branches of the family are now friendly rivals more than allies.

Or maybe not so friendly. At least that’s what the murder of a North clone in the English city of Newcastle suggests to Detective Sidney Hurst. Sid is a solid investigator who’d like nothing better than to hand off this hot potato of a case. The way he figures it, whether he solves the crime or not, he’ll make enough enemies to ruin his career.

Yet Sid’s case is about to take an unexpected turn: because the circumstances of the murder bear an uncanny resemblance to a killing that took place years ago on the planet St. Libra, where a North clone and his entire household were slaughtered in cold blood. The convicted slayer, Angela Tramelo, has always claimed her innocence. And now it seems she may have been right. Because only the St. Libra killer could have committed the Newcastle crime.

Problem is, Angela also claims that the murderer was an alien monster.

All at once a desire like a fever seized me to see the North again and I cast my lot with those bound for New York.

Excellent detective work as usual, tubemonkey! Here, reward yourself with a "chillaxing" banana boat ride.

Interesting. I had also deleted the old version but somehow the one I downloaded was missing the rest of that sentence in chapter 5. I must have offended the Spirits of Download.

The acclaimed Scottish playwright Rona Munro has created a remarkable story about a man who wakes up from a car crash with brain damage. Now, he sees the world as the person he was three years ago, when his life and loves were in a very different place.

An L.A. Theatre Works full cast performance featuring: Jared Harris as Donny | Sophie Winkleman as Emma | Siobhán Hewlett as Trish | Moira Quirk as Flea | Paul Fox as Al

Donny’s Brain is part of L.A. Theatre Works’ Relativity Series featuring science-themed plays. Major funding for the Relativity Series is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, to enhance public understanding of science and technology in the modern world.

What if you went to a school where it was actually all right to be who you really are? That’s the enchanting place David Levithan has created in his highly acclaimed first novel.

But even if the gay kids and the straight kids all get along just fine, even if it’s all right for the quarterback to be a cross dresser named Infinite Darlene and the cheerleaders to ride Harleys into the pep rally, the road to true love is still a strange and winding path—as Paul discovers when he meets the boy of his dreams.

Charming, funny, delightful, and utterly heartwarming, this YA novel speaks with clarity and depth about our need to love and be loved.
