Thanks guys. I do.
The basis of the tension is .... religion. Imagine that. What a shocker! Last summer, when we went to visit them, my SO told them that he didn't believe in "God" and was an atheist. His mother is a devout catholic that just finished a theology course at a seminary. Out came the hysterics and how he just broke her heart, she can't take it, etc., etc., etc...then of course, since her son doesn't have a thought of his own, she says, "Oh... I know. You always were influenced by your girlfriends." Now you have just told your son that he can't think for himself. WTG

![]() She is definitely one of those MILs, and his dad is the dad in the cartoons that looks around asking, "Huh? What? Who?" I suppose his survival tactics are to just block out most of what she yammers at him. LOL... it's kind of funny when I take myself out of the conversation. |

Woke up from a dream about a giant rat. Damn. Anyway, religion is not a safe topic. My family and I always fight about it too. Ugh and when I told my sister I didnt really like going to church, she told me, "Oh so you're an atheist now." um no.

Being in an assisted living facility was a family decision. His parents were retired in Arizona, and his father (who is nearly as old as his mother) was attempting to care for her as her condition worsened, and was suffering under the strain. The assisted living facility is within easy distance of he and his brother. Perhaps more important, it's just down the road from the hospital where his brother's wife is a surgeon. She's been the driver in evaluating what care his parents needed, and making sure the nursing home provided it. It was the best possible solution for them. No matter how willing, neither he nor his brother and sister-and-law could have provided the care required. ______ Dennis |

I was really originally just referring to the people who dump their elderly in nursing homes as soon as they are able. My grandmother had alzheimers (sp) as well and died in her nineties (nobody asks what age anymore since it's rude, at least for us) and she spent the last of her days in the province, occasionally coming up to the city to see a doctor. She loved to travel and was still vey strong until she fell down a staircase.

What they don't realise is that "Christian" sympathy that they showed us when we had doubts is what confirmed that "away" was the right direction. I've never had an atheist try to drill their beliefs into me, only believers.

I believe in God. I've just stopped believing in the church. I believed some stupid things while I was in a religious school or rather, what they made us believe, like how yoga is satanism and Harry potter is evil
