On the 16th May I raised an incident about a 90% promo code that didn't work. I raised it by phone and even the CS rep couldn't validate it. I was asked to send in screen shots of the email. Today Kobo have closed the incident as they 'haven't heard from me' even though I replied to their last 'update' telling me the query was being raised to a higher level.
I can honestly say that I have never ever had such abysmal customer service from ANY company as provided by Kobo. I still buy books from them as, up until October, I am a super Points member. I won't renew and if, god forbid, my Kobo H20 fails, I'll never buy another Kobo ereader. Amazon has its problems but compared to Kobo they are fabulous. Josie, I've had the same issue and replied to their cased closed email about how they'd asked me to wait to hear from them and they hadn't written back. I probably told them how lousy their customer service is also. They've always then resolved the issue.
Sad that you have to fight CS every time though to get them to help you. |

I'm just waiting for a discount code so I can use up the last few dollars of a credit I have at Kobo from the Apple settlement. I was disgusted with them when they wouldn't do anything to resolve an issue I had--I couldn't re-download a couple of books from my library (which I'd lost because of some issues with ADE and switching computers), and they basically just said, Tough luck. I ended up having to re-buy the books elsewhere.

I rang them again today and after over 15 minutes on the phone nothing was resolved. It was all me, the book wasn't eligible, the code had expired, I didn't know how to use, anything she could use as an excuse. I've decided to just go with the flow now, if a code works fine, if not i'll buy from Amazon, 90% of the time the books are cheaper anyway. I know Kobo offer a price match but tbh its better for me to just buy from Amazon.
If Kobo ever want to seriously compete its their "customer service" they need to work on. That's what lets them down and sends customers away. |

I've used the Price Match and they have always paid out, it's just with whispersync audiobooks Amazon win hands down. Kobo seem to arrogantly think they are on an equal footing with Amazon so their customer service doesn't matter, but they are not, and it does. Until they actually do something about the appalling level of customer service they provide people will simply give up on Kobo.

I typically use it when BN has a Nook Daily Deal or other deal that isn't on sale at Kindle, and since BN is a pain, I'll price match to Kobo. It's rare - usually if it's on sale at BN, it's on sale at Kindle, but occasionally not. (And of course, it's totally almost never on sale at Kobo ![]() |

A bit off topic, but it seems like I am not the only one not discussing discounts
![]() Does Kobo offer Gift Certificates? We are doing Secret Santa (I know, I know, it's June) on Goodreads and I am just curious. The site keeps freezing on me today. I can't get past HOME page ![]() |

They were offering electronic gift cards via Swagbucks for a while, but those have gone away. Here's the page on their website. |

I wouldn't trust Kobo CS either. I'll buy their readers from other vendors, but I have 0 confidence in Kobo to handle anything other than their hardware. |

To present the other side of things: I have dealt with Kobo's CS on several occasions, and each time the matter has been resolved to my complete satisfaction. Everything from a mistakenly labeled book to the warranty return of an Aura HD that stopped charging.

I think that is part of the problem: they need to do better than hit or miss customer support.

I've had consistently good customer service from Kobo in the 4.5 years since I got an ereader, never had an issue that wasn't resolved quickly. In contrast customer service from Amazon in that time has been a mixture of good and extremely poor.
