$4.95 -- All of Us and Everything -- Bridget Asher/ C Campbell --> 10.2 hrs/ R-3.8 --> literary

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($4.49) | Kindle ($11.99)

For fans of Eleanor Brown's The Weird Sisters and Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret comes a smart, wry, and poignant novel about reconciliation between fathers and daughters, between spouses; the deep ties between sisters; and the kind of forgiveness that can change a person's life in unexpected and extraordinary ways.

The Rockwell women are nothing if not...well, it's complicated. When the sisters - Esme, Liv, and Ru - were young, their eccentric mother, Augusta, silenced all talk of their absent father with the wild story that he was an international spy, always away on top-secret missions. But the consequences of such an unconventional upbringing are neither small nor subtle: Esme is navigating a failing marriage while trying to keep her precocious 15-year-old daughter from live-tweeting every detail. Liv finds herself in between relationships and rehab, and Ru has run away from enough people and problems to earn her frequent-flier miles. So when a hurricane hits the family home on the Jersey Shore, the Rockwells reunite to assess the damage - only to discover that the storm has unearthed a long-buried box. In a candid moment, Augusta reveals a startling secret that will blow the sisters' concept of family to smithereens - and send them on an adventure to reconnect with a lost past...and one another.

THREE Fantastic Whispersync Deals.

There are some things in life that I call "good problems." Case in point: I found three especially outstanding Whispersync deals today. I can't post all of them. That's a good problem to have, wouldn't you agree?

So, here's my answer. I'm going to post just the basic facts about all three of these Whispersync deals. I hope the fact that I don't give extensive information, as usual, won't keep anyone from grabbing a deal that they would have liked, if they had known more about it. And, as it so happens, there is about as broad a range of genres and subgenres as imaginable here, so maybe there's "something for everyone."

Black Machetes, by R.K. Howard. Psychological thriller. $2.98. Audible $17.95.
Repeat Offender: Sin City's Most Prolific Criminal and the Cop Who Caught Him. by Bradley Nickell; Warren Jamison. Non-Fiction Crime. $2.98. Audible $21.95.
Glamorous Illusions: A Novel (Grand Tour Series Book 1). By Lisa T. Bergren. Religious Romance. $4.28. Audible $25.95.

$3.95 -- Beautiful Ruins -- Jess Walter/ Edoardo Ballerini --> 12.9 hrs/ R-4.0 --> literary

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($3.95) | Kindle ($8.99)

Audie Award Nominee, Fiction and Best Solo Narration, 2013

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying.

And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What unfolds is a dazzling, yet deeply human, roller coaster of a novel, spanning 50 years and nearly as many lives. From the lavish set of Cleopatra to the shabby revelry of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Walter introduces us to the tangled lives of a dozen unforgettable characters: the starstruck Italian innkeeper and his long-lost love; the heroically preserved producer who once brought them together and his idealistic young assistant; the army veteran turned fledgling novelist, and the rakish Richard Burton himself, whose appetites set the whole story in motion - along with the husbands and wives, lovers and dreamers, superstars and losers, who populate their world in the decades that follow.

Gloriously inventive, constantly surprising, Beautiful Ruins is a story of flawed yet fascinating people, navigating the rocky shores of their lives while clinging to their improbable dreams.

$1.99 -- New One Min Manager -- K Blanchard, et al/ D Woren --> 1.5 hrs/ R-4.5 --> leadership

Quote:
The New One Minute Manager

Whispersync: Audible ($7.99) | Kindle ($1.99)

A revised edition of the timeless business classic - updated to help today's listeners succeed more quickly in a rapidly changing world.

For decades The One Minute Manager has helped millions achieve more successful professional and personal lives. While the principles it lays out are timeless, our world has changed drastically since the book's publication. The exponential rise of technology, global flattening of markets, instant communication, and pressures on corporate workforces to do more with less - including resources, funding, and staff - have all revolutionized the world in which we live and work.

Now Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson have updated The One Minute Manger to introduce the book's powerful, important lessons to a new generation. In their concise, easy-to-understand story, they teach listeners three very practical secrets about leading others and explain why these techniques continue to work so well.

As compelling today as it was 30 years ago, this classic parable of a young man looking for an effective manager is more relevant and useful than ever.

I downloaded the ebook from Project Gutenberg, and here is the missing portion at the end of chapter 5:

Quote:
Just when I was beginning to look upon Jacksonville as my permanent home and was beginning to plan about marrying the young school teacher, raising a family, and working in a cigar factory the rest of my life, for some reason, which I do not now remember, the factory at which I worked was indefinitely shut down. Some of the men got work in other factories in town; some decided to go to Key West and Tampa, others made up their minds to go to New York for work. All at once a desire like a fever seized me to see the North again and I cast my lot with those bound for New York.

WS Deal on Highly Rated Thriller--Only 9% ($1.99) of Price of Audio Alone at Audible!

Don't adjust your computer monitor--the title does say 9%!

There may be better Whispersync deals today, but this Whispersync deal is the best one that I saw. That's considering the total price of the deal, the price in relation to the Audible audiobook by itself, ratings, and other things.

Title: Deadly Straits: The Ultimate Terrorist Attack (A Tom Dugan Thriller),
Genre: Fiction (Genre Fiction/Thriller).
Author(s): R.E. McDermott.
Price: $1.99 ($0.00 ebook (marked down) + $1.99 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $21.95 (1 credit).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.5 stars/1,342 reviews (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.1/87 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 415/10 hours and 6 minutes.
Narrator(s): Todd Haberkorn.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/Mysteries-...ok/B00AM2IODQ/.
Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Strait.../dp/B0057AMO2A.
Comments: This is Book 1 of the Tom Dugan series. There are three books in the series. The ebook is the #1 seller in two Kindle store categories at the present time. Audible states that it is (a?) (the?) bestseller by some metric.
Book Description (Amazon):
WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) are all around us, hiding in plain sight. One in just the right place will bring the world to its knees. When a cabal of international terrorists engineers not one act of terror, but three, part-time spook turned CIA scapegoat Tom Dugan is the only one with a clue.

But no one will listen. They’re too busy trying to kill him.

Here are two super Whispersync deals for the parents of kiddos. The deals are on both of the two books in the "Ennara" series by Angela Myron. Both of the books are considered children's fantasy and magic titles.

Oddly, although both of the books are in the same series, Amazon states that the first book is suitable for age level 10-18/grade level 5-12 and the second book is suitable for age level 12-18/grade level 7-12.

Ennara and the Fallen Druid. 4.3 stars. #1 in two categories in the Kindle store. Audible $17.95; Whispersync deal $1.99.

Ennara and the Book of Shadows. 4.3 stars (10) at Amazon; 4.58 (38) at GoodReads. Audible $17.46; Whispersync deal $2.98.

$4.99 -- The Harder They Come -- TC Boyle/ Graham Hamilton --> 12.4 hrs/ R-3.8 --> suspense

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($12.99) | Kindle ($9.99)

Acclaimed New York Times best-selling author T.C. Boyle makes his Ecco debut with a powerful, gripping novel that explores the roots of violence and antiauthoritarianism inherent in the American character.

Set in contemporary Northern California, The Harder They Come explores the volatile connections between three damaged people - an aging ex-marine and Vietnam veteran, his psychologically unstable son, and the son's paranoid, much older lover - as they careen toward an explosive confrontation.

On a vacation cruise to Central America with his wife, 70-year-old Sten Stensen unflinchingly kills a gun-wielding robber menacing a busload of senior tourists. The reluctant hero is relieved to return home to Fort Bragg, California, after the ordeal - only to find that his delusional son, Adam, has spiraled out of control.

Adam has become involved with Sara Hovarty Jennings, a hardened member of the Sovereign Citizens' Movement, right-wing anarchists who refuse to acknowledge the laws and regulations of the state, considering them to be false and nonapplicable. Adam's senior by some 15 years, Sara becomes his protector and inamorata. As Adam's mental state fractures, he becomes increasingly schizophrenic - a breakdown that leads him to shoot two people in separate instances. On the run, he takes to the woods, spurring the biggest manhunt in California history.

As he explores a father's legacy of violence and his powerlessness in relating to his equally violent son, T. C. Boyle offers unparalleled psychological insights into the American psyche. Inspired by a true story, The Harder They Come is a devastating and indelible novel from a modern master.

Consider --> Holo Series (book 1 of 1)

Whispersync: Audible ($3.49) | Kindle ($7.55)

As if Alexandra Lucas’ anxiety disorder isn’t enough, mysterious holograms suddenly appear from the sky, heralding the end of the world. They bring an ultimatum: heed the warning and step through a portal-like vortex to safety, or stay and be destroyed by a comet they say is on a collision course with earth. How’s that for senior-year stress?

The holograms, claiming to be humans from the future, bring the promise of safety. But without the ability to verify their story, Alex is forced to consider what is best for her friends, her family, and herself.

To stay or to go. A decision must be made.

With the deadline of the holograms’ prophecy fast approaching, Alex feels as though she is living on a ticking time bomb, until she discovers it is much, much worse.

$4.95 -- Notes from a Dead House -- F Dostoevsky/ S Rudnicki --> 13.6 hrs/ R-4.2 --> classics

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($4.49) | Kindle ($11.99)

From renowned translators Richard Pevear and Lindsay Volokhonsky comes a new translation—certain to become the definitive version—of the first great prison memoir, a fictionalized account of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s life-changing penal servitude in Siberia.

Sentenced to death for advocating socialism in 1849, Dostoevsky served a commuted sentence of four years of hard labor. The account he wrote afterward (sometimes translated as The House of the Dead) is filled with vivid details of brutal punishments, shocking conditions, and the psychological effects of the loss of freedom and hope but also of the feuds and betrayals, the moments of comedy, and the acts of kindness he observed.

As a nobleman and a political prisoner, Dostoevsky was despised by most of his fellow convicts, and his first-person narrator—a nobleman who has killed his wife—experiences a similar struggle to adapt. He also undergoes a transformation over the course of his ordeal, as he discovers that even among the most debased criminals there are strong and beautiful souls. Notes from a Dead House reveals the prison as a tragedy both for the inmates and for Russia. It endures as a monumental meditation on freedom.
