I've been following the series and each book has an end.

Reading further books develops the story and characters further but you could read the first one and stop if you wanted to.

And JS Wolf says this, having only read one of them.... Give it a rest. Just because you and your book club didn't like Consider Phlebas doesn't mean that Ian Banks was a lousy author, incapable of writing good books or that the entire Culture series is not worth reading. Why don't you save your opinions on this for the Reading Recommendations forum? I suspect you've nay-sayed Banks a dozen times on this thread alone. If GeoffR had asked for an opinion on it, that's one thing, but it's not necessary for you to opine on it every time one of his Culture series books (which you've apparently not read, unless it's Consider Phleba) goes on sale.

Storybundle World SF Bundle

The World SF Bundle is StoryBundle's new bundle focused on speculative fiction from around the world, including both books originally written in English and translated books.

Quote:
For a minimum $5 purchase, you get:
The Secret History of Moscow by Ekaterina Sedia
Servant of the Underworld by Aliette de Bodard
The Apex Book of World SF: Vol. 4 edited by Mahvesh Murad
A Small Charred Face by Kazuki Sakuraba

For $15, you get all four of the regular titles, plus six more (including a 3-in-1 omnibus, so that's technically eight books!):
The Apex Book of World SF: Vol. 1-3 edited by Lavie Tidhar
Spirits Abroad by Zen Cho
Prime Meridian by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Rupert Wong, Cannibal Chef by Cassandra Khaw
Castles in Spain: 25 Years of Spanish Fantasy and Science Fiction edited by Mariano Villarreal
Azanian Bridges by Nick Wood
I have personally read and enjoyed Servant of the Underworld, Spirits Abroad, A Small Charred Face, and a couple of the Apex World SF anthologies, so those would make the bundle worth purchasing for me if I didn't already own them.

Great books, but there seems to be a problem with the anthologies if you download individually to computer. I only got one and four. Send to Kindle got all of them.

Yes. If you like fantasy in another world/universe.

Oh - note that Magician:: Apprentice is the first half (?) of Magician. Published in one volume in the UK, it was split up in the USA.

Very classic style fantasy. Happy to see these -- I seem to recall that the earlier books weren't available as ebooks in the US for a while due to publisher issues.

And also just 99p at amazon.co.uk.

I read it last year when it was going cheap - highly recommended.

They have been having a lot of sales of Feist's catalogue lately. I think this is the fourth Riftworld book I've seen on sale in recent months. Must buy for me...

I certainly enjoyed what I have read of it. It's been years but I think you can read Magician (both Apprentice and Master if you get it that way) without a huge cliffhanger compelling you to continue the series beyond that.
