On sale today for $1.49 through the Kindle Daily Deal (not available elsewhere):
The Accidentals by Sarina Bowen This was one of the best books I've read this year and I don't even normally like YA. There is a sweet little romance, but that's not really the focus of the book. Spoiler:

I read Wild Hunger by Chloe Neill. I gotta say it was very much disappointing. For those new to the Chicagoland series they will like it but the quality of story was very sloppily done. The romance was badly rushed. After Methan you expect Elisa and Connor to be just as good. The first 75% is just reintro and what's change in twenty years and all the new characters introduced. The monster plot is so anticlimactic. I can only hope the next release is better. My favorite new character is LuLu, she's great. I gave it 2.5 stars.

It's been awhile since I asked for recommendations.
I'm on the hunt for my next hero obsession. As some of you know I like dark mysterious heroes. There are so few out there that I found that I like. 1. Ranger from Stephanie Plum 2. Nick Santiago from Brandy Alexander series 3. Rourke from In Death series 4. Dimitri from Guild Hunter series 5. Vance Crowe from Rock Chick series Any other you would add to my list? I'm picky I know but there's just something about these five that hit all my obsession points. I think while they are extremely Alpha they support their women causes for justice. They help them when asked by the heroine instead of playing the caveman and keeping them locked up and doing everything for them, that and their dark mysterious past make them a perfect combination for me. If you know of any book like that let me know please. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk |

Carina Press is shutting down the ecommerce part of their site.

I need to check and make sure I have downloaded all of the freebies I got there. I know all of the books I paid for are downloaded and in Calibre plus backed up, but sometimes I tend to click on freebies thinking I'll download them later and then forget ![]() ![]() |

Thank you, library addict, I have to do the same. I guess that, being harlequin fully operational in ecommerce now, to keep the site doesn't make sense, but yes, the transfer would have been a nice movement.

@ Blossom,
I've been reading the "Mercy Thompson) Patricia Briggs series lately, if you like werewolves/para fiction. Adam is strong and supportive, but not as developed as a character could be - at least not so far as I've read in the series. The books are a mixed bag, but a good read overall IMHO. I'll try some of the series on your list! |

Even better is Patricia Briggs' other series, Alpha & Omega, which is set in the same world as Mercy, although can read one series without reading the other. The hero, Charles, is kind of a werewolf assassin and definitely the strong, silent type, but utterly devoted to Anna, his mate. If you do decide to start this series, you have to start it with the original novella, called Alpha & Omega, where the two first meet. You can try the novella, and you'll know pretty quickly if it appeals to you. The first full length book is called Cry Wolf. Another suggestion that I have is the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews, starting with Burn For Me. Rogan, the hero, is alpha all the way, but the heroine keeps him in line - it's a similar vibe to Eve and Roarke, now that I think about it. ![]() |

I'm guessing any merger would be complicated by them needing to get OverDrive involved to do the actual merge as that's what the Harlequin.com & Carina stores are based around (books are distributed/downloaded from OverDrive) |

I don't see why since all Carina Press books are DRM free. I think the issue might be that some of their early titles have already reverted back to authors if requested. So possibly a rights issue? I had a few that I needed to download (freebies from Marie Force's Fatal series which I cannot bring myself to start since the hero is a politician) and there was one book I think I already read and deleted from Calibre as it wasn't my cup of tea. Lately I've been buying my Carina Press titles from the Harlequin site or Kobo for the most part, so not much will change for me. I did buy some books from the Carina site last Christmas as I think they must have had a 50% off coupon or something. I'm just happy they aren't closing as I like a lot of their books and authors plus have discovered a number of autobuys through them. |

I'm sure rights could be part of it, but what I meant was that they'd have to get OverDrive to do/help with the actual merging if possible because neither site hosts their own books, they're both hosted/downloaded from Content Reserve which is the retail distribution part of OverDrive (I guess Hqn didn't want to run their own Content Server's). Nothing to do with DRM. I suppose Hqn themselves could issue new "purchases" on the Hqn site for our Carina books, but as you say the reverted titles would likely be unavailable in that case.

Yes, you see a few of your ebook stores go out with little or no notice, you learn quick to download and backup your ebooks right away.
