Seaway Mall in Welland, Ontario. Not far from my hometown. Mom & Dad used to drag us there every August to go back-to-school shopping at the BiWay.

It just dawned on me that no one here would get that reference without actually knowing me personally .

I had the Elise in mind when I made that reference and am aware that it's not for the faint-of-heart. I probably should have compared it to the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice/Opel GT/Daewoo G2X to keep it as apples-to-apples as possible. In those cars, I would accept compromises more readily when it comes to fast/sporty driving than I would with the Lotus, especially after 1) paying a US$30,000 premium for the Elise over any of those and 2) hearing for several years from knowledgeable sources how amazing that Lotus' handling is. Of course the Elise doesn't coddle its occupants because it's not designed to. If, however, the performance was no better than that of the GM examples I gave, I would be seriously disgruntled and rightly so. The iPad has a similar price premium over its current competitors (except the Xoom) but doesn't have the performance edge, ease-of-maintenance, or really much of anything that justifies that premium for me.

I'm beginning to feel like Charlie Brown; I knew, just knew, that Lucy would pull the football away at the last minute, but I wanted to believe that this time would be different. Good grief.

I'm going up to TigerDirect today to get a Viewsonic GTablet that has comparable performance for less money. The viewing angle is supposed to be lousy compared to the iPad, and the resolution is slightly lower (1024x600 vs 1024x768); how much worse is it? By my reckoning, about US$100, or the difference in price between this and the 16GB WiFi iPad. I'll do an unboxing/review in the Android section later if anyone's interested.

Still fighting off my urges here. Almost gave in...but I'm staying strong...Will be interested in what you think of the Viewsonic.

This was also done in the grand court of the former John Wanamaker's department store in Philadelphia. (The Wanamaker family sold the business to Federated Department Stores, and it's now a Macy's.)

The store has the largest playing pipe organ in the world in the mezzanine, and noon time recitals were a tradition. When the organ started playing, activity came to a dead stop. Fortunately, the new owners seem to have retained the tradition.

The organ was used in the Philadelphia iteration of the event.

I've had a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab and I was very disappointed, I think the biggest issue for me was the size, I really do think the iPads 9.7 inch screen felt miles bigger than the Samsung's 7 inch screen. I have used both for about the same amount of time and other than the size, I couldn't put my finger on why I preferred the iPad, other than my iPhone experience.

I should mention that I am an Apple user (not a blind fanboy) and have owned nothing but Apples for more than 10 years, so I am admittedly biased, but in my defense I have had a lot of PC and Linux through work.
