I'm a moderator, and I don't claim to speak for MR as a whole. but I can tell you how I think of it.

Imagine this: you stop into a bar for a drink, and find yourself in the middle of a brawl because a couple of patrons are having a violent disagreement. Is that the sort of thing you like? Are you likely to leave quickly and not come back because that's not the sort of place you want to be?

So it is with MR forums. Speaking personally, I expect disagreements, even strong ones. I assume the folks who hang out here are grownup, capable of behaving in a civilized manner, and treating others with basic courtesy, even if they don't agree with them. I don't particularly care what people believe, or whether disagreements occur. I care a lot about how they are conducted.

The rest of us aren't interested in watching others have knock-down, drag out fights. There's an ignore function you can use to block seeing posts from users you've decided you can't stand. If you absolutely must go at some one hammer and tongs, there's a PM you can use to do it privately so the rest of us aren't forced to watch.

You are welcome to hold whatever opinions you like. You are welcome to express them. You are welcome to disagree with the opinions of other posters, and disagree strongly.

You are not welcome to make the forums places other posters don't want to visit.

To be fair here, Dusty is far from alone in his abhorrence of that particular member.

Happy_Terd posted all of the following comments:

At no point did any Moderator censure any of those comments - presumably comments (note the plural) calling for genocide are acceptable and won't put other members off? Whereas bringing such comments to other people's attention so that they can make up their own minds is unacceptable and likely to put members off? Hence the perceived need for unilateral action against such an evil, racist, hate-filled idiot.

For the record, I feel that what Happy Terd posted in regards to the use of nuclear weapons was wrong. The use of such weapons is rightly controlled in a very rigid fashion for good reason. For reasons of privacy and just because it is not anyone's business but the moderators, I will not tell you what the conclusion of the discussion was, nor the plan that has been put in place.

We are aware of the situation and we are prepared to act on it.

So let's just get off it and get back to a discussion of what we are doing right now, and leave this unfortunate incident behind us, shall we?

Why strange? Lately it seems like at least half the drivers out there got their licenses in a box of Froot Loops.
I even came across a service that teaches you how to memorize the eye chart and the color blindness test.
That's how my cousin got his.

I knew an aviator that had memorized the eye chart. was blind as a bat. finally they got the computerized random ones. I felt the skies were MUCH safer!
