Thunderstorm with lots of rain yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). Took a walk after 9pm and it was opressivly humid.

Chicagoland area had 11 small tornadoes on Monday. 5 more were confirmed yesterday; total was lower before.

We didn't get any rain yesterday, between eight and nine pm there was a lot of thunder and lightning, but the showers passed us by. When I went to sleep I checked the rain radar there was no rain predicted, so I kept the windows open. At one am I was woken by very loud thunder and the skies opening up, so I had to close the windows.

This morning it was the same temperature as yesterday morning, 20C, but it felt cooler. Later today temperatures will rise to around 27C, still warm, but better than 30C+. It'll stay humid. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The next couple of days it will be around 25C, possibility of rain and muggy.

Another hot day, 30C degrees. It's now cooling down fast. Very dark clouds are already moving in and the rumbling of thunder is getting closer. This doesn't mean anything, that happened several times in the last couple of days and that was all that happened. But this feels and looks different, so I'm hopeful we get a proper thunderstorm shortly.

Well, I got what I asked for. It's raining hard, there's a near constant rumbling and flashing and the weather service has issued an amber weather warning for the province.

We had heavy rain overnight, which broke the hot spell -- for today, at least.

Temperatures were in the pleasant mid-70s (F), and it was cloudy and breezy, but still a nice day.

It's only 17C this morning. Bliss.
Later temperatures will rise to about 25C, warm, but still a lot better than over 30C degrees!

From the second half of the afternoon the chances of rain and thunderstorms gets higher.

Another too warm couple of days. Yesterday it was 26C, today 30C and tomorrow 26C again. After that temperatures will return to normal for the time of year, maybe even lower than normal.

In an hour or so it's going to rain for a while and later in the afternoon there's a chance of thunderstorms or showers. Which means it's not only too hot, it'll also be humid.

Tuesday wasn't too bad. The high temperature was 90° (F), and it was very humid. The sky was mostly sunny except when some heavy thunderstorms passed us by. We had some strong breezes which made the humidity more tolerable, but also made it more difficult for mosquitoes to land.

Wednesday is predicted to be near perfect, with temperatures in the high 70s, low humidity, few clouds, and good breezes.

And we should get the remnants of Tropical Storm Laura by Thursday.

That is not hot by Reno, NV summer standards. Supposed to hit about 39C or 102F today. Last month Death Valley California hit about 130F or 54.4C. Now that is HOT. Years ago I rode a motorcycle through Needles CA when it was 114F or about 45.5C. NOT FUN!

It was unusual in the Netherlands until a couple of years ago, since the summer of 2018 we've had at least one heat wave each summer. Including several days of around 35C. Last year we've had a couple of days of nearly 40C. The average summer temperature in the Netherlands is around 20C.

Luckily it looks like autumn is coming. Temperatures are between 17 and 20C this past week. The weekend with be cool, 18C, with showers. And night time temperatures are between 12 and 15C. Which means I can close my curtains (kept them open during hot weather to get more fresh air into the room), it's now nice and dark at night again and combined with cooler temperatures I can finally get a proper night's sleep again.

Smoke

It looks like early morning fog. Unfortunately, the west coast is on fire and the smoke is drifting towards the Sound. We need the wind to start blowing east.
