Just enough time for a short story. Check out Midnight and Holding.

Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of short stories reflecting those desires. Total words: approximately 12,000.

Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (Not to be confused with my novel of the same name.)

The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his sorely neglected wife and children.

Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years.

Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires.

Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme.

Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage.

Thanks for reading.

A Spooky New Anthology

A new short story collection of Ghost/Horror stories is now available through Amazon. What it lacks in gore will be made up for in chills, with the occasional dash of light humor:

A short story anthology of six ghost and horror stories engineered for the information age: a pair of archaeologists find their computer simulation has an unwelcome visitor; a killer App does just that; a cloud sucks the fun out of all of us; a dead phone rings; a lucky day is anything but; and a computer repair technician joins the fight to defeat alien hordes. The first five are completely new stories; the sixth is an extended version of a previously published flash fiction story.

In March 2011, another UK author challenged Peter Salisbury to write outside his usual science fiction comfort zone and produce at least one ghost/horror story. This collection is the result, in which some readers may believe that technology refused to fully relinquish its grip on the author, despite his struggle to wriggle free.

(14,300 words plus samples of other stories, total more than 18,000 words)

A new review of Dogs of War, my 25,000 word novel, has been posted:

Quote:
This is a ghost story unlike any other. It is emotional, informative (I learned things about daschunds that surprised me) and definitely spooky. It's a short book, but there is so much packed into its pages that it feels like a longer novel. I would recommend this story to ghost story lovers and to dog lovers.
The rest of the review can be found here

An Improbable Tale...

There's a touch of Bill Bryson meets Douglas Adams in The Improbable Tale of How I Saved the Universe, a new sci fi comedy out now on Kindle at the promotional launch price of just 83p.

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005D2K8RK

The Improbable Tale is a first person space comedy written through the eyes of a failed journalist pursuing the ultimate story. From the frozen wastelands of Antarctica to the depths of outer space, the story follows the hilarious journey of narrator Tam Husband as he becomes the universe’s final hope in a vengeful alien race’s dastardly plot to destroy all of civilisation.

From the secluded iron planet Fiz-Yelda to the mysterious Valley of Frozen Souls, Tam’s journey takes in some of the most mind-boggling locations imaginable with a misfit cast of characters who readers will come to love.

But above all this is a tale of friendship, love and the determination of a small group of outcasts to succeed in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

The book reached the final 14 in the sci fi category in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards 2011, where leading US magazine Publisher’s Weekly praised its “light, consistent and fun tone” and the official Amazon review panel described the “very witty, flowing novel.”

Rubies and Other Gems - the Novel, available on most digital platforms.

Lily’s life isn’t going well. Her husband is clueless; her children are rudderless. It's little wonder she seeks comfort in her dreams, unaware that her grandmother’s rubies have transported her back through time to a safer, saner existence.

When she learns that her dream lover is not a dream after all, but a real man who lived and died years before she was born, family problems mount. Because she can’t repair the damage from the past, she vows to stay in the here and now. She almost succeeds when she accidentally sends herself back in time without her return ticket, the rubies.

"RUBIES AND OTHER GEMS is an enjoyable read of a modern woman's struggles to find out what she really wants in life.” Debra Martin of Two Ends of the Pen.

Nuke em in Je$u$' name...

"Nuke ’em in Je$u$’ name..Or...How the American Empire Can Avoid the Coming Economic Collapse" paints present-day America as a black comedy, where post-9/11 life has come to imitate art in a weird dysfunctional sort of way. The president’s been shot Christmas Day in downtown Washington D.C. at the Iraqi War Orphans Home by a 12-year-old female resident? What in the world is happening to America? It’s bad enough the economy is still stuck in reverse – now this? No doubt about it. Time to roll out the nukes. At least that’s what conservative American patriots and Evangelical Christians are screaming. Enough pussy-footing around. Nuke Iran. Hell, nuke somebody. Anybody.

Meanwhile, happily ensconced in this 369-page novel, eager to provide his favorite FAUX News reporter with some helpful political analysis, former President Johnny P. Barker is back to snorting endless lines of coke now that he’s retired from public office; his syntax still a jumbled mess. Not too far away, over at Walter Reed Army Hospital, President Barney Kenton has awakened from his coma only two days after being shot in the head; but uh-oh, he starts doing what none of his predecessors has ever done – he starts spouting the truth about war and economics in direct opposition to the rich-and-powerful people who put him in office. Will he survive this betrayal?

Here's the Amazon link for anyone who might like to take a better look at the novel. Thanks:

THE HARBINGER OF DOOM SAGA

The Harbinger of Doom saga centers around one Lord Angle Theta, an enigmatic warrior of unknown origins and mystical power. No mortal man is his match in battle. No sorcery can contain or confound him. No scholar or sage can outwit him. But for all his skills, he is but one of us; a man, a human, who shares our faults, our dreams, and our ambitions. He boldly strides across the land, fearless, peerless, and cloaked in mystery; all his will bent on righting such wrongs as he deems fit.

Until the day the Gateway opened and turned the world on its head. On that fateful day, Korrgonn came and washed away our dreams. And his outre' realms of chaos set their unholy mark upon our world and claimed it for their own.

Only Theta and his companions see the enemies aligning against us. Only they foresee our end coming -- the end of civilization, the end of the world of man. Only they can hope to turn the tide of madness and preserve all that we hold dear.

But no man, not even our greatest hero, can stand against the Lords of Chaos and the dark armies of Nifleheim at their command. Fiends that infiltrate unseen within our ranks, that tear down our temples and our traditions; that devour us from within, unseen, unknown, unheralded, and unopposed until the hour grows far too late.

Through the murk and mist that hangs before our eyes, one man only sees true. One man pierces the veil of magic that blinds us all and marks the world as it truly is, revealing secrets, secrets of Angle Theta, so horrifying as to shatter a man's mind and call into question the very nature of good and evil.
Join us now on our journey back to the days of high adventure.

If you only have time to read something short, why not try Midnight and Holding, my just released collection of short stories?

Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. Total words: approximately 12,000.

Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (Not to be confused with my novel of the same name.)

The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his neglected wife and children.
