It's sad. For the past few years, even writing book dedications has proven difficult for him. I hope to live to see the end of Alzheimer's worldwide. Pratchett's death, as that of Aaron Copeland and so many other modern geniuses, just goes to show that Alzheimer's is no respecter of persons or talent.
