We haven't had a TV since we came back to Japan. No TV and no cable bills! Like you, we get a lot more use out of the Internet. Plus, if we had a satellite antenna on our veranda, we would have to pay a monthly fee, above the cable costs, to the national broadcasting station. You pay regardless if you watch their programs or not.

Yeah, i saw this thread a while back... difference being, all we're doing is paying a subscription fee to the soccer channels for online viewing and using ESPN3 and netflix. No other replacements needed. We might look into one of the Hulu services, but none of this trying to record and certainly no torrents.

Either way, its a nice bill to be rid of.

You guys are nuts. Television is mankind's greatest accomplishment. My living room set is a shrine, with the big 57 inch screen and the ceramic tile cross we got in Seville hanging over it. HD satellite programming, DVR, stereo sound system. I can watch TV in languages that I barely understand. And my beloved Steven Tyler is on Idol twice a week looking sexy and acting adorable. What's not to love?

It isn't a small dictionary but the Big Van Dale (Dikke Van Dale), paper version is the same price iirc. But you don't need to pay €200 every couple of years to be able to keep using it. I don't mind paying for an update but €150 is still too much imho.

I'm irritated tonight because I waited all afternoon for a call back from a doctor about some test results. When I called THEM this morning, the results were there but the doctor hadn't looked at it yet, so she (the nurse) couldn't discuss it with me. She assured me somebody would call me back in the late afternoon. Nope. Nobody did. Last Monday night this same doctor called me fairly late, about 8 p.m., so I thought maybe she would do that again. Well, it's almost midnight so I think I can safely say she's not going to call tonight. It's not an emergency or anything, but I'm a little anxious about it and they knew that. So why didn't anybody call?
