I'm afraid that our premier went on a selling spree with the assets of Queensland, among which was our government water supplier (she was supposed to hold a referendom).

The prices have shot up 20%, with a further 20% rise next year.

We are not amused.

In my state we have plenty of cheap water. And a brand new governor who is a MD and not a plitician. Next door in Georgia, they also have plenty of cheap water. But the water use along the state border has been a bone of contention for several years. There is Birmingham on one side and Atlanta on the other, both big growing sprawling cities. Thirsty cities that never had to worry about water in the past.

Brand new governor announced this week that he will not budget the money to continue the fight over water use rights.

Did he just give them permission to divert water to Atlanta without asking us?

You should start a class action suit along with the fish in the Colorado River. They funnel so much water out of that poor stream for Las Vegas electricity that we've already lost several species of fish from it!

And diverted our (sunshine coast water of which there is always plenty) to BrisVegas who can't seem to keep theirs

Now we will have restrictions and expense in the next drought to subsidise brissy!

Actually, one way or the other, we have subsidising Brissie for years.

Even when the Hinze Dam was full to overflowing, we further down south, who had lots of water, were on restrictions so that they could supply Briz.

The sell-off of SEQEB was the last straw. I have been printing out fliers etc., and we have had legal advice, so we'll see how it goes.
Also, we are making sure that everything is done legally.

Basically, we are asking for detailed accounts as to how they arrived at their estimates (knowing full well that they are actually 'guesstimates'). And will pay when the proveable accounts arrive.

We also have a water tank for the garden.

Ain't it a load of fun?

Cheers

I went shopping by myself (first mistake) in our local mall, and was cornered by a seller of a skin-care product named after a famous river in Israel.

He was gay, and utterly delightful. We nattered and chatted for nearly two hours, and I was given a whole bunch of samples, whilst he was also flitting from customer to customer. When I said that business seemed to be thriving,he said "Dahling, it's because you are sitting here." That's called 'shmaltz'.

I bought, but at a good price.

Now when I walk past, he shouts out my name to come "Sit, sit."

I now use the other entrance.

Cheers

As a gay woman, it always amuses me the love that straight women have for gay men. My partner aside, I dont actually have any other friends who are gay (male or female), so clearly i missed a boat somewhere.

As for my vent.... I'm a lawyer. I work LONG hours. usually 50-70hours a week. I got to my office yesterday morning at 6am in the snow. When i got in my car to leave last night around 6, the battery was dead. Now, I know this happens. I've never had to replace the battery before and we've had horribly cold weather this year. But the kicker is that I just had the thing inspected and fully serviced last week. So my car can make it in and out of a mechanic's passing inspection, getting a full tire and oil service and no one can check the little color indicator on the battery anywhere during this process? Not amused.

Unfortunately, and quite often, car batteries fail "catastrophically" -- meaning there is little indication of failure before it "eats itself alive"

Sorry for your issue. ...I hate cars and their problems!

This battery actually has a color indicator meter. Just like a gas tank. I could check it myself, but i pay someone else to do that sort of thing and get a little miffed when they don't do it.

That's my point. Even checking will not necessarily indicate trouble before a catastrophic failure.

You know, it's funny -- my brother who was just here visiting from CA asked me what the status was on the "water war," and I had to admit that I didn't know. It seems that it only becomes a big public issue during a drought, but right now, when clearer heads might prevail, it is kind of a non-issue.

I'm not the sulky type, I'm the pointedly look at my watch every few minutes type. I don't care about the money so much (my wife does not spend that much and is generally pretty frugal) it is the utterly dismal, unendingly boring amount of time spent doing something that I'd rather pass up for a root canal. Ok, maybe not that bad, but I hate clothes shopping, hate, hate, hate, hate.

It's probably because they feel less threatened by them And the gay guys are not trying to pick them up all the time, or check them out.

In college I had a female friend of mine that was gay and I always told her we could go to the bar and pick up women together.

about that... when I was shopping with my older sister a couple of days ago, I went into a shop, called X70 or something. what startled me was that all the staffs were gays! I meant no offense, gays are normal, but when you don't know that all 5 men in the shop are gays before you step in there, it would be something startling, right? they also insisted on my calling them 'sisters' and talking to them as if they were real women, though they still had male appearances (you know, male clothes, males shoes... they hadn't gone to Thailand to do the surgery).

My sister and I didn't freak out, of course. We were just surprised, but when we went out of the shop my sister said that she really didn't like it. That's easy to understand, she is from the previous generation (nah, she's not so old like that, but she's always acting like she's 72 instead of 27 yrs old) but I'm still a teenager, young enough to consider it normal - and amusing - to talk to the gay.

This gay stereotype conversation makes me uncomfortable. My favorite nephew is a "manly" man. He and his former partner of a decade were just a couple of "good old boys" who worked on antique cars, which is sort of the family hobby - or would rescue me from a flat tire. They were equally at home in the garage or out in the woods hunting. If we had gone shopping for clothes, it would have been for camo in the army surplus store. Such a sweetie! I love him!
