No "head" news today, slight drizzle may be making the cat's stash house hard to reach. So he came in all friendly like, wanting to rub his face and whiskers on us. It's one of his favorite ways to wake us up.

We'd keep the cats indoors full-time, but they're all rescue cats that have had a taste of the outdoors. Tried it for a few days, hard to say whether it was the cats or the humans that were crazier in that time.

But they've never brought us birds, at least. Live frogs, and lizards too. Dead snakes, which they've killed and brought back, or intruders that they've attacked in the house. When the raccoons walk in they alert us, but don't attack. Some discretion allowed, even in the predator brain, it seems. Must be helping somehow, our oldest cats made it to seventeen ok. Not much car hazard here, though.

Yes, I definitely think it makes a difference whether or not they have ever lived outdoors or not. These two came straight to me as kittens from the animal shelter, so they truly don't know any other way of life. They seem pretty satisfied as long as they can lounge on the windowsill and watch the birds and squirrels.

My Escape Artists will have nothing to do with staying inside all the time....

I don't know about that, my dog certainly rules the place.

Catches mice better than any cat, too- he's very businesslike and efficient about it. Does it in quickly (one good shake, so you don't find the head or organs separately later... and no torture), then comes and demands his treat for doing something good.

I just want to know one thing... When the cat does bring in a trophy, especially if it's still kicking and squirming, why is it that we usually hear;
"HONEY!!! DO SOMETHING!
Are men supposed to be genetically endowed for this chore? Where is this written?

You hear us yell "DO SOMETHING!" because it's yucky.

Our cat has learned not to bring trophies because every time he is caught with a creature it is taken away from him. (constantly rescuing lizards). When he gets a bird he eats it all except a few feathers and the beak and feet. I know this because I find the remnants of his meals behind the hot water tank!

Me too!! And this morning my doctor told me I had to cut down. I had a consult after my yearly health check, and aside from being a bit too short for my weight, this year my cholesterol levels were up. The doc is making me cut back on meat and cheese, and do more exercise. Why can't they just come up with a better pill?!?
