To me it's both a thriller and military, but I think of it as more of a thriller, and thus fitting here - especially since many of MacLean's other books are not military and just thrillers.

The Case of the Crooked Candle is about half-way through the Perry Mason series by Erle Stanley Gardner. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. I have fond memories of reading lots of Perry Mason books by the local pool during my last jobless summer when I was a young teenager...sigh!

A couple of price drops in the Michael Shayne series...

Per SYKM, the series was started by Davis Dresser using the pen name, Brett Halliday, and later several other authors wrote as "Brett Halliday". One of these titles, Private Practice, is the second in the series, and was written by Dresser. The other looks to be a collection of two novellas (?) or short stories (?), depending on how you measure...not sure who was the actual author for those.

I'm sure I missed a few when I read the ones I could find in used bookstores years ago, so when I got my Kindle and set up Overdrive libraries it was one of the first series I searched for. I was disappointed that none of my 8 libraries have any of the series except one measly audiobook.

I actually still have 30 or so old paperbacks - I wonder if I could get anything for them on eBay...
