When I first thought I was 'in love,' I looked in the dictionary to find out just what 'love' was. Didn't help at all. So I asked my mother to give me a definition. She gave it her best shot. I still didn't understand. So I asked my father to give me a definition... No luck there either. That too was 45 years ago. I'm no closer to an answer that I can verbalize. But I do think that although it's wonderful to have someone love you, it's even better when you love someone else. Of course, the best is obvious. ![]() Stitchawl |

![]() I believe that a person cannot belong to another. This being my guideline, everything is pretty clear afterwards. FOR MYSELF, I think loving two persons at the same time can happen, but I would not have a relationship with both, and friendship can already be too much. I committed myself to my husband, and FOR ME (again), that is a pretty clear statement. I would be in deep s... if I were to find out one day that I did not love him anymore, so I've kept my fingers crossed those last 20 years, and it seems to work ![]() For everyone reading this thread : feel free to do as you wish and feel, love is very complicated, I have not yet found exactly how it works. ![]() |

For me, every time it has been and is very different on each occasions, while there are "things" that do not change. What Sappho and Catullus sing, I think I experienced it all. Because I read about it? I do not think so. Like at a dinner, there was this girl that I had met years before, and I was intrigued. On impulse, I asked if I could draw her face. I started to do a sketch on the paper towel. So I could look at her without ogling. See Ace, there are ways ... It came out that she accepted to be photographed for further exercises, pictures to be taken at her place, so that few days later I was there shooting pictures like a pro, for about an hour. I was totally absorbed. I had never done that before, but I had seen it done. Then I stopped, exhausted and she gave me some coffee on the kitchen table. We lighted up cigarettes. And suddenly, I found myself without words, without strength, without will. The words of Catullus came to my mind. Although they were the words of Sappho. Could not speak, could hardly breath. It never happened again to me, but it did happen that time, with her. Catullus really experienced that fully, the last lines are the key of what happened to me, I think. This is Sappho 31 He appears to me, that one, equal to the gods, the man who, facing you, is seated and, up close, that sweet voice of yours he listens to And how you laugh your charming laugh. Why it makes my heart flutter within my breast, because the moment I look at you, right then, for me, to make any sound at all won’t work any more. My tongue has a breakdown and a delicate — all of a sudden — fire rushes under my skin. With my eyes I see not a thing, and there is a roar that my ears make. Sweat pours down me and a trembling seizes all of me; paler than grass am I, and a little short of death do I appear to me. And this is Catullus 51 He seems to me to be equal to a god, he, if it is permissible, seems to surpass the gods, who sitting opposite again and again sees and hears you, sweetly laughing, which stole all the senses from miserable me: for when I look at you, Lesbia, no voice is left to me in my mouth. But the tongue slips, under the limbs a thin flame pours down, with their own sound the ears are ringing, the lights (eyes) are covered by twin night. Leisure, Catullus, is mischievous to you: You revel in and desire leisure too much: Leisure has previously destroyed kings and lost cities. |

Only I am incapable to do it for some reason. One and only ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't ask me why. It was the same with male friends. I never had many. 2-3-4 close friends and that's it. My other bane is distance. It kills any feelings. I need a personal contact, or I behave like a turtle. Withdraw into my shell. I guess that it hurts me when I cannot be in touch when I miss a person and in order to minimise the damage I burn all the bridges. When I left USSR, I sent a few letters to a couple of my friends then stopped. When I left Israel, I didn't even pretend trying to. It was an excruciating pain saying good bye to my future wife in AirportS. After two of them, I said no more visits to the UK. I could not handle it. So, the next time she visited me....and got an ultimatum. Either we do something and get together or forget about each other *shiver*. I still remember our good byes holding each other in Heathrow and Ben Gurion. Drinking...nothing atm. Ahmad English Breakfast 4 cups in the office. Wu Yi Rock - Shui Xian and Keemun Mao Feng at home. Off to bed to get some much needed sleep. |

![]() Fear's the way we die You can make the mountains ring Or make the angels cry Though the bird is on the wing And you may not know why Come on people now Smile on your brother Everybody get together Try to love one another Right now ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySvYx7XyBws ) Good morning, everyone! Yet another Wednesday! Have you noticed? This seems to happen almost EVERY WEEK! ![]() To honor repetition I'll have a mug of East India Company's "Royal Blend" tea, rice, and a bowl of miso soup. (Frankly, I think I'd rather have a Big Mac, but I'll be good.) Quote:

![]() One, for example, 'suggests' (for there is no actual proof) that the phrase arose from the days when bed frames were strung with a cross-hatch of rope to support a straw or horsehair mattress. Before retiring, one would check and adjust these ropes to be sure that they would remain firm during the night's sleep, hence 'sleep tight.' I don't know if there is any truth to the story, but it's fun to imagine! ![]() How different we are! One of the things that attracted me to my first wife was that she lived hundreds of miles away and could only get together on weekends. We used the 'Commuter Shuttle' air flights between our cities, one week I'd travel there, the next she would come to me... Quote:
![]() ![]() Ilsa: I wasn't sure you were the same. Let's see, the last time we met... Rick: Was La Belle Aurore. Ilsa: How nice, you remembered. But of course, that was the day the Germans marched into Paris. Rick: Not an easy day to forget. Ilsa: No. Rick: I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue. Quote:
[Ilsa lowers her head and begins to cry] Rick: Now, now... [Rick gently places his hand under her chin and raises it so their eyes meet] Rick: Here's looking at you kid. (pausing to dry my eyes...) I think it's so amazing that each and every one of us has such different feelings, different ways of looking at life and love, different ways of handling our needs and wants, yet despite these differences, we manage to create full, rich lives for ourselves and our loved ones. I don't know how it all works, but it's certainly clear that it does! YIPPEE! ... and I'll drink to that! Another mug of "Royal Blend!" Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 09-13-2011 at 08:32 PM. |

I woke up to the tunes of Eagles' Hotel California, from neighbor's extremely good HiFi. What a nice song.
And nothing for breakfast. So I'm having very strong coffee. Maybe this is the wrong tactic. I might be dizzy later. Quote:

^maianhvk Do people wish a good night to furnitures?
At the end of a trip I say thank you to my car and pat the dashboard the way she likes it. If I left the lights on, she beeps very cutely. You gave me an inspiration. Next time I go to bed, I'll take my pillow in my arms and whisper: Let me hold you. Further than that (my mind just keeps popping up ideas): When I secure the house before going to bed, i could stop and have a friendly chat with blender and thank him for the good work. ![]() Today I got lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to Kyoto to the little Chinese Import store to pick up some light Chinese soysauce and a package of fermented black beans. I carefully perused the tea shelves and found several that they hadn't carried before, but nothing so special. So just to be sure, I asked... and I got lucky! On a different shelf, they had just put out four packages of my most favorite unbranded Keemun tea! ![]() ![]() ![]() Needless to say, I bought all four packages! 400gm of great Keemun tea for about $25 USD! I'm a happy camper! Stitchawl |

Got my order from Eteaket yesterday: 250gr of Rooibos Caramel and also a packet of Chocolate Abyss (black) tea which I am drinking right now. It's good, but not chocolaty enough for my taste.
