I KNOW cats are fastidious creatures. I KNOW all cats clean their toes. Strider and Arwen seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on toe cleaning as well as nail grooming. and they are NOISY about it, and want to be up close and cuddly when doing it, also using me as a backrest to get into the truly awkward positions

So long as it's only their toes they are cleaning when they use you as a backrest for awkward positions...

My cat sits on the top of the backrest of my couch right behind my head. I can't tell you how many times I've turned around and he was licking his rearend right behind me I love him, but he's freaking gross sometimes.

With the "crunch, crrrrrunch, crack-crunch"? I hate it when the furball chews his claws, it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Yes, you're right. I remember this wirehaired dachshund I had and always did his grooming on my lap....crunch, crunch and not his paws.

Ah, now you got me hungry and I was reminded by The Egg And I with all the references to cooking. In Norway we eat a lot of bread . Most Norwegians will bring a "matpakke" for lunch and this will usually consist of bread with cheese or some other topping. I do believe we get more healthy bread than in the U.S supermarkets where you can buy bread and it's good to go weeks after

I may be spoiled by where I live, but I have two 24 hour supermarkets within a couple of blocks walk and several 24 hour delis. All have bread from local bakeries, baked fresh that day. I'm also in walking distance of a farmers market that carries artisan bread. I can get the packaged bread that will last a week and still be edible, but there's no need to.

No Mexican 'fast' food, but there sure are some really good regular Mexican restaurants in KL! We had two favorites that we used to frequent, both with very authentic cooking.

Nah... I have a firepiston too, and it's a pain in the butt to use! The spark cup is the size of a small BB, so when it's heated, the time you have to get that coal into your tinder bundle is very, very, short. The only fuel that works well in a fire piston is tinder fungus as it burns very slowly, and then, only when properly prepared. That's hard to get when the world is frozen. But with a good flint and striker, you can use a nice piece of charcloth, which is very easy to make and can be much larger, so the spark can stay healthy for 30-60 seconds instead of 3-5 seconds with the fungus.

I think this is one reason why fire pistons were never the norm in ancient Europe and North America. I think that they really had their place in more tropical regions where flint wasn't readily available.

I will concede that the fire piston is tres cool.

My rant is against the thieves who broke into the roof of the Cairo Museum

and trashed some of the Tutankhamun funery objects.

This is thieving and desecrating priceless treasures, and has nothing to do with politics.

Unspeakable.

It is nice how they want to share and be close. Do you find a little pile of dirt left behind after it has been 'combed' out by the ruff tung?

Mr M loves to sit on top of the backrest behind my head, though not to lick himself. He has discovered that womping me around the head with his tail is fun! The other night he even turned around and assumed a position (leg down) in order to womp me more effectively. he particularly likes it when I catch his tail and he has to wrest it free from my grip to start womping again!

Totally agree! Egypt (and the world) could lose some irreplaceable treasures if this vandalism continues!
