Mmmmm .... A promo code kobo emailed me didn't work so I've been going through the usual rigmarole to get it replaced ...

But, apparently the system's changed and customer service can no longer deal with it, instead they have to email somewhere within the bowels of Kobo Toronto who eventually get around to issuing a new code.

I say eventually get around to it because it's 11 or so days since Kobo CS identified that the original code didn't work and emailed this other section in order to get a new code.

Not a happy camper!

Anyone else experienced this 'new' system yet?

I have never yet received a 'we miss you' code or any other freebie from Kobo. However I am very happy to finally have a tracking number that shows the ereader I won back in October is finally on its way. Its been quite a battle getting it, with numerous emails going unanswered. In the end I had to resort to posting publicly on their Facebook page to get a response. But its finally on its way...Yay!!

I've never gotten a "we miss you" code either.

I keep getting emails saying they're still looking into my 55% code this past contest not working. Whenever I send them a reminder I get a response asking me to wait another 24 to 48 business hours. But at least they have been responding.

I've got it, it hasn't worked but I haven't inquired about it. I've had problems with the promo "5$ for a new customer" or something like that, and it has been answered by chat in a timely manner.

I was told by different CS staff that there is no longer a time period within which Kobo will finalise a code issue. That is the 24 to 48 hour statement that a service rep usually makes and then again in the follow up emails are no longer guaranteed or relevant. A code can now only be issued by this mysterious department which different CS reps declined to name.

I'm guessing that this department must be getting quite constipated with all the demands on it's service ......

I recently received another 90% off code that doesn't work. This time I initiated a chat session. After an hour of describing the problem, sending a screenshot of the email and waiting around, the CS says to call. Good grief!

The last couple of 90% off codes I've gotten hasn't worked. Even on the linked list of books it says I can use it on.

I got the "well the book you want isn't discountable" response until I gave them the URL of the list THEY link to in their email. They ended up having me buy the book at full price and then refunded me (in the form of store credit of course) 90% of the purchase price. This was all via a chat window, I wouldn't be calling them.

I didn't even bother to contact them about the last 90% off coupon code they sent me that didn't work.

Oh Hemmi isn't it a hastle being given a code!!

On the one hand Kobo is being very generous, and on the other hand they don't let you access the code. And then, if one tries to get the code replaced they've instituted a new system whereby all replacement code requests have to get sent to some other department and they may may eventually, some weeks later, replace the code.

I only ever phone them from Aus (toll free) and speak with CS from both the West Indies and CA and they also feel frustrated by this new system. At least up to now they could issue the replacement code, but no longer!

How bizarre is this! Kobo CS have told me that the promo code issued to me in January this year was used in the second half of last year!

So, maybe that's some proof towards why the codes we're being emailed, or Contest codes that are being won, are duds - they've already been used some time ago and as part of their recycling weren't cleared to work afresh!

And CS seems to think it's my fault, irrespective I was issued with it in January tthis year! Grrrrr ......
