Hi frank,

Quote:
Will there be any firmware with non-encrypted cramfs system so that we can modify it to include our fonts?
I don't think it would fit there.

Finally, I am also curious that, does it drains the reader faster if we mount fonts from internal memory for system/txt/LRF and for epub(through css?), rather than use the font in "system memory in activity"? Thanks.
If you mount --bind stuff, don't do it from internal memory, it's not about faster / slower, but rather about corrupting it.

Hi,

I have a prs 600. I had the 2.03 preview installed and now thought I would update to 2.0.4 alpha. So I downloaded 2.0.4, extracted it to internal memory, turned off the reader, started it and I seem to have 2.0.3 still, ason the about page it still says "prs+ n/a". According to the changelog, this should be fixed.

What could I do wrong?

Thank you very much for your help

No. Timing is very hard to predict right now.

opitzs
You should do it exactly the same way you did with 2.0.3 and it should work. Recheck if the file you were extracting is actually from 2.0.4. It's highly unlikely that there is an error in installer.

I re-downloaded the file, installed it and no everything is fine. I love the history (previous/next) on the volume buttons! Many thanks for that. Of course I also love the standby image feature...

Many, many thanks

Is there still a high risk of bricking when installing this on a 600? I would love to have folder browsing, but not That bad.

All I can say is I followed instructions and a few minutes later had folder browsing AND ability to read direct from memory card... works great... with any mod there is arisk if you get the instructions wrong, turn the power off in the middle etc but with normal care and attention I've used PRS+ on several 505s and 600s with no problems at all... scan thread for other experiences.

1) The only somewhat dangerous step is flashing base image. You only do it once. Installing PRS+ itself is basically copying files over.
2) I haven't heard of anyone bricking his 600 this way. Reader has some protection even against failed flashing procedure. What it doesn't have is a way to simply wipe out whatever is in flash like it was on 300&505. This is why base image is basically the same as the standard Sony image and practically all modifications (the PRS+) are loaded on the fly, not flashed to internal memory.

And I am right in assuming this is the only way of getting folder support, right? Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I find collections rather cumbersome.
Oh, and if I do this, and hate it (kinda doubt it, but) can I change it back to Sony firmware?
Thanks for all the help.

ebookapps guys announced they planned to support other readers a while ago, no idea how soon it will be.

Yes, actually you even have 2 ways: leaving base flash and uninstalling PRS+ (no reflashing of firmware) or flashing using Sony's standard flasher.
