For at least the last hour, Emusic's free download of the day has been having one of its common hiccups--the problem where, when you click on "download free track," it doesn't download.
Emusic usually resolves this particular kind of problem sometime in the day, but in case I can't get back to check on it again myself later, here is the URL of the download webpage. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-02-2017 at 02:58 AM. |

Because I don't think that it's worth downloading, I've nixed posting the full information about the song. If you want to check into anyway, you have the link to it, above. The genre/styles information is pretty accurate as far as it goes, but somewhere it should have been mentioned that there is a heavy element of electronica in the song. |

I just checked, and eMusic's free download of the day has changed over to today's giveaway. However, it's got the same issue that it had yesterday, early in the giveaway period--when you click on "download free track," it doesn't download.
I may check later in the day to see if they have fixed the problem, as they usually do. However, I see no point in checking eMusic's new daily giveaway early in the new giveaway period anymore (it seems that they switch over about midnight EST). I'll try to check back later in the day today. As with yesterday, if I can't get back to check on it again myself later, here is the URL of the download webpage so that you can do so, if you wish. Oh, only if everyone was as dependable and easy to work with as YourClassical . . . .
Their giveaways of the day, I've come to find out, change over between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. each weekday (M-F) morning. I just checked, and the new one for today, Friday, is up already. And . . . ahem . . . the file does download, and the music does play apparently just as it should. ![]() The free piece is Piano Trio: II. Pantoum, from composer Maurice Ravel. It is performed by Arden Trio (no conductor mentioned), and is from, not a Naxos album this time, but a Delos album called, fittingly enough, The Arden Trio. There are actually two parts to the album. The second part is devoted to Maurice Ravel tracks; the first section is devoted to works by Camille Saint-Saens. If you're interesting in finding out more information about the entire album, this is the link that you should follow. Our free piece runs 4 minutes, 16 seconds long. It is formatted as an MP3. Stream and/or download the piece by navigating to this webpage. The stream bar should be very obvious to you, being located directly beneath the thumbnail image of the album cover. You download the piece directly to your device by clicking on the blue link that says, "Direct MP3 download link." I found the piece to be very pleasant. This is despite the fact that there is quite a bit of violin and piano in the piece. That often will ruin it for me. But, both instruments are played with a light touch, and come off sounding well, IMHO. Enjoy. With this being Friday, and the free YourClassical pieces not being offered on Saturdays and Sundays, we should not expect another freebie from them until Monday. |

Naxos has 3 full albums listed for download, of which ONE is allowed per customer.
One must be a subscriber to their email. My notification came in the email. You have to read TO THE BOTTOM of the email, where the three are listed. Then click and then choose which one you want. I had some difficulty, at first, because I didn't have the current version of Adobe Flash on my computer - apparently. My full album of choice is currently downloading. All three are in the FLAC format. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 03-03-2017 at 01:48 PM. |

I have a bunch of unused video game keys for steam from various game bundles I have collected over the last couple years. If you are interested in these PM me and mention what kind of games you like and I will work with you to get a game you may like and do not have. This is limited to one per person and you must have been a member here for a year or more and have made at least 10 posts. I want to reward people who contribute to this community.

Fixed. But I nixed. It's electronica (there is some singing about 1/3 of the way into the piece), though. I don't listen to the genre, so I'm terrible about being a judge of it. |

Get a free Episode of Doctor Who. It's Zaltys: Part One.
To get it, navigate to this webpage. There's not much on the page, but there's all that you need, I think. A dialogue(?) box says "Please enter the code for this offer." Below it is a space to enter the "Access Code." Enter this special, super-secret code that only I (and about a million other people in the world) have: DW1982. You may have to register or something like that, because there is a place in the top right corner for you to enter username-and-password kind of stuff. I don't know what happens after you put in the code and click, because I am not a Doctor Who fan, and I don't care to have the episode, free or not. I'm just posting this, out of humble service and dedication to, and complete unselfishness toward, those MobileReaders who are Dr. Who fans. ![]() There were some guys in college that I was around some that were Dr. Who fans, but they were all a little strange . . . . EMusic's free download of the day today actually does download shortly after they have posted it! I know because I did it. I'm listening to it now.
I like it, but I'm a fan of blues--both the old stuff, and the contemporary stuff. This is a contemporary bluespiece. Here's more information about the track: Song: High Wire Artist: Geoff Achison Album: Another Mile, Another Minute Label: Jupiter 2 Records / Digital Music Marketing Genre: Blues Styles: Contemporary Blues The singer is not very good, but I learned a long time ago that a good singer is not necessary for a good blues song. It's all about rhythm, the beat, the tempo, conveying emotion, those kinds of things. That's much more true of the old stuff, than the newer stuff. It's a keeper. http://www.emusic.com/dailydownloads/toolbar/main.html (the URL is the same every day). Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-04-2017 at 01:03 AM. |

EMusic's daily free download today is of a group that I think has a lot of potential. The songwriting was good. The lead singer . . . meh. Maybe he can do better on other songs, or maybe the group could play a little louder and drown him out a little bit. Honestly, I'm not trying to be cruel, I'm just "calling it like I see it."
Song: Proactive Evolution Artist: WHY? Album: Moh Lhean Label: Joyful Noise Recordings / SC Distribution Genre: Alternative/Punk I notice that they didn't put the song under a "style" category. Just as well, I didn't find that very helpful anyway. "Alternative/Punk" seems like the right genre to have this song in/under. The link for every day's eMusic freebie: http://www.emusic.com/dailydownloads/toolbar/main.html. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-05-2017 at 01:22 AM. |

Today's YourClassical free download is a story of unknowns, at least to me.
I don't remember hearing the name, before, of the company that publishes the album from which today's piece is taken--Tactus. The name of the composer of the album, Francois Couperin, too, is an unknown to me. The thought just occurred to me that the two above "unknowns" may be connected. Perhaps Tactus is a publisher which specializes in the more obscure composers, like Couperin. I'll have to put this on my bucket list to research one of these days . . . . Anyway, the album is called Francois Couperin - Concerts Royaux. The free piece that we can get from the album? It is Nouveaux concerts: Concerto No. 9: VIII. L'et caetera ou menuets. Credited with performances on the free piece, at least, are Claudio Rufa, flute; Paolo Pandolfo, viola da gamba; Rinaldo Alessandrini, harpsichord. Very frequently the music publisher Naxos has a dedicated webpage for an album, whether or not it is one that they publish themselves. That is true today. If you will point your web browser to this webpage, you can view it. The free piece runs 3 minutes, 4 seconds long. It is formatted in MP3, as all of the freebies that we've gotten from YourClassical have been (I think that I detect a trend here. ha). You can stream and/or download the free piece from this webpage. I found today's YourClassical free piece to be very pleasant. It is becalming. I was a little concerned when I saw that the harpsichord was one of the instruments used, but it is very subtle and does a great job of what I would call accenting the rest of the instruments. I was glad to see the flute as one of the instruments--it is the instrument that I chose to play during my short-lived musical career (5th-grade band, under the direction of Mr. Stonecipher). Sorry for the late post today, but it basically couldn't be helped. Remember: there is at least one archive of past YourClassical posts; the one that I'm familiar with goes back about 7 days' of posts. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-06-2017 at 05:20 PM. |

Today's eMusic free download is not my kind of thing. But I think that people can detect when a piece is a quality one, regardless of whether they like that kind of music or not. I think that this is a quality piece of music.
Song: Brujo Artist: Sundays & Cybele Album: Chaos & Systems Label: Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records / Redeye Genre: Rock/Pop Styles: Rock One caveat. And I don't think that this is because of my ignorance about music, because knowledgeable people have commented on this thread, before, about the same thing concerning eMusic's descriptions of their giveaways. I don't consider Brujo to be a rock song whatsoever, but it might squeeze (barely) into the pop category. It is eclectic. When I hear it, I hear a lot of hip-hop and some reggae. Here's the linky.
