There are links to the pbchess download which includes fmon and CoolReader, in both of the install guides I posted above.

Just a few suggestions for the search function in Koreader:

1. If there are multiple calibre.metadata files, utilize all of them. Currently, I can search the books on the internal storage or the external storage but not both. Alternatively, if multiples are present, present them as part of the found dialogue and allow selecting one of them as the default.

2. Before displaying the search results, sort them. Scrolling through 4 pages of unsorted results to find a book is not a productive use of my time.

3. More of a blue sky suggestion. Return the series name as a result in the search and allow selecting it to display the books in the series similar to what the Kobo search allows. I suspect that this is onne of those ideas that is going to be a lot harder to implement than would appear.

4. More of a nit. Change the name from LIBRARY_PATH to SEARCH_PATH or SEARCH_LIBRARYPATH to be consistent with the other SEARCH_whatever entries. Also when using the Set Defaults dialogue, the LIBRARY_PATH is not displayed until it is set to a value other than nil.

Regards,
David

To 1, I have to think of something.
Right now the automatic search will stop after it found the first library. And I for sure don't want it to search through my whole file system, I have too many books on it, this takes too long...
You can of course select a different library in the "set defaults" menu, but right now you have to manually select it. We already have a file chooser somewhere in the Koreader code, I'll think of something.

To 2, this might be a problem if your search brings back too many results, but I am not sure. And this gets more complicated, if I sort them you probably also want to define some sort criteria. Again, I have to think about something here.

To 3, yes, this will be harder to implement, but I thought about this too. Not only for series, same goes for tags.

To 4, SEARCH_LIBRARYPATH would make sense, yes. I guess I'll do that...
The nil values are a problem, there is another in defaults.lua right now. For the library this actually is no problem anymore, in one of the last releases I changed the behaviour: If you have a nil value Koreader will search for the file and will enter it into the default list (but it will not automatically save it!). If it does not find one you actually don't have one, then there would be no reason to change the value from nil to something else. And if it finds one you can change it back to another one in case you have more, see 1.

But the whole search/default settings are brand new and I still change things there all the time!

Is it even possible to use a hold_callback on an item in the ReaderMenu (I know this is used for set as default on config items)?

As I understand it calibre's "Send to Device" has only two "devices", for the Kobo; one for the "Main" device and one for an "A drive" SD card. It looks to me that calibre will put a "calibre.metadata" in the root of the devices and create subfolders where it puts the actual author folders with the books inside.

So, there should be only the two places to find that file(s). It appears that you can use a template to tell calibre where you want the book files stored, I am guessing but it seems likely that that would not change where the calibre.metadata file is placed.

Some of the search results are determined by the wording of the search request. Using two letters, or half a word will give you much broader results than using a whole word that is specific to the results you are looking for.

Being able to use "Regular Expressions" would be great but would be overkill for most ebook libraries.

Luck;
Ken

That is correct with one addition. It is possible to disable the specific drivers for a device and use "Connect to folder". Whatever folder you choose is treated by calibre as a device. The calibre.metadata will be put into this folder, and it will be used as the base folder for the send to device template.

Yes, I'm surprised, Ken, I thought you of all people where the first to use "send to folder" since this together with a .folder is the only way to make sure that Nickel will not try to grab those books!
Btw, there is also Kindle and Android to consider...

But I really can't think of any need to have more than 2 Calibre libraries, one on the SD card and one onboard. So it might be easiest to just use 2 library variables...

@gontofe, I don't think you will win anything with the long tap. You probably are faster to tap twice on the home menu...
Add to this that you are probably the only one who can use this feature I don't think we should really consider this.

@WS64 Point taken, though what is the alternative suggested method of switching off Kobo Touch from within Koreader? In Nickel I just use the power switch, but can only seem to suspend from within Koreader, so have to exit to Kobo Start Menu to turn it off...

Why do you want to turn it off? "suspend" is good enough! (and next release will have a screensaver option for supend too)

That would probably be the way I should do it, if I were to go that route, but I don't bother with those features of calibre. I only added it recently to test out your search function. I don't use "search", in looking for books to read, more like "browse" my library for something that looks good. For that, my own naming scheme and file structure, works fine.

Luck;
Ken
