Update: He looked again and saw the books I was talking about - which I referred to in my original comment. I wonder if they are on several chats at the same time.

For some sales, and I think this was one, you don't have to be a paying member. You just need an account. If you got the banner and the counter, I would guess that made you qualified. Normally if you aren't qualified for a sale, you can't even see any information about it. If it were me, I would be contacting them.

Has this been an issue before? I have had problems with coupons not being applied before, but it's been a matter of a simple phone call and the coupon's been added--so it's seemed to be just some glitch. I have never before been told--quite adamantly--that a book didn't qualify.

The mix-up seems to have something to do with the Whispersync for Voice price being substituted for the "regular" price somewhere along the line, whether that's the price you paid or not. At least that's what it seemed like when I tried to analyze the situation by looking at what I had purchased.

I responded to their follow-up customer satisfaction email by basically telling them to get their act together because this is starting to get kind of annoying.

It is not restricted to new members. I just cancelled my membership after the 3 free month deal expired. It let me rejoin through this link. Best part is that is only requires clicking a link and then entering the code "travelzoo." I didn't have to give travelzoo my payment info (they seem to just be getting a referral payment).

Great deal. I couldn't really justify 15 bucks a month with my backlog. but $7.50 is an irresistible deal.

You don't have to be a brand new member, I had cancelled my membership earlier this year and Audible let me sign up for this 50% deal. On another forum some people successfully cancelled existing memberships and signed up for this deal, but make sure you use any credits you have before you cancel, otherwise your credits go poof.

Existing members who signed up for this deal had better double check their credit card bills.
I signed up for it last night, the system showed the promotional offer, showed I'd be charged half price. I looked at my account this morning and saw a full price month's charge. I call Audible just now and was told the offer was just for new members who have never used any promo before. They refunded my $16.00 and cancelled the membership.

I do NOT think it's OK for their eCommerce system to show one price and then charge more. It could have simply told me I'm not eligible, like it has with other promos. This smacks of fraud (but I'm sure it's just incompetence). They didn't even offer me an apology credit of any kind....

Thanks for the warning. I double checked and I was charged correctly. FWIW I signed up through the referral link not the direct one and I had cancelled my membership a few days ago (when a 3 month trial ran out) not immediately before signing up.

I'm surprised Audible, being a part of Amazon, has so many snafus like this.

Yes, this is what most puzzles me as well. I've had more customer service calls to Audible in a year than I've had in all the years I've been shopping with Amazon.
