This week: Biology as Ideology by Lewontin, and Reflections on Gender and Science, by Keller. Mostly finished with both. Interesting points. The rabidly anti-feminist should skip Keller, but I thought she did a good job of discussing the history of gender and sexual metaphors in Western science, while not trying to throw the baby out with the bath water (and she is a practicing mathematical biologist, after all). Lewontin is extremely accessible, and, as a geneticist, warns about placing too much faith in genetics (or any other science) to answer every human ill.

And now I need to go write a paper about them. Pardon me....

There are some repetitions in each book to make it easier for those who haven't read the series but other than that yes. Harry's battles as well as his relationships get more intense as the series matures.

Yeah I noticed that in the second book. No biggie. I love the snark.

You don't want to read the thesis

I don't wanna wait!!

Wonder if her actual thesis is available anywhere ..... (book originally started as a thesis).

I'm so glad you liked the sample! Believe me, you don't want to read the thesis; it had a very awkward frame story set in the present, with neonazis and murder. My friend Karen suggested I take it out, and I needed to use a chainsaw.

My book will be out in July in the UK; I don't know when it'll be out in the US and then Kindle-ready.

I have finally joined the ranks of Kindle owners, having reserved a K2 yesterday...

I have about 100 screens left to read of a book by Charlie Huston, "The Dangerous Man," which is an incredible read.

This is my first introduction to this author and (unfortunately), I just found out that this book is the conclusion to a trilogy. However, it doesn't read like a conclusion; to my way of thinking, it reads just fine.

These are the titles of the books in the series:

1) Caught Stealing
2) Six Bad Things
3) The Dangerous Man

These were all free books that may still be available from Sony. If you decide to get them (and if they are still free), don't forget to back up your copies, as Sony pulls them willy-nilly, but leaves the titles still on one's library list, creating the impression that it's still available.

Just put my Butlerian Jihad book aside to start reading Heidi. After seeing Heidland on the webcam channel on Swiss TV for a whole week, I just wanted to read that book again.

I'll be reading Hector Malot's Nobody's Boy next. (took me some time to find that book)

Dr Drib........are you familiar with this site? It offers a search for every author and lists their books in chronological order.......if this is a repeat, I apologise.

Yes, thank you. I'm familiar with the site; in fact, I often use it to copy/paste information on plots, etc. on some of the titles I assemble or if I'm looking for a specific jpeg.

I find it a very useful site, and as the years have gone by it continues to get better and better. I actually like it a lot better than the Wiki, as they tend to have spoilers on the Wiki.

(Reading the Huston series out of chronological order was just an oversite on my part. I had never read anything by Huston, and I had just finished reading a great piece of literature (The Road - Cormac McCarthy), and I wanted some pleasant "trash" fiction [read: genre] to absorb quickly.)

Just finished reading (audible book actually)

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

I really loved this book. The audio performance was well done too. I read recently where someone said that they liked it as a kid but not as an adult. I've gotta disagree.. but perhaps I like my books a bit less cerebreal. I actually enjoy many "young" adult titles, Patterson's Maximum Ride books are great.

I especially enjoyed the 20 minutes or so at the end of the book where Card talks about the opus of the book, how it started from an idea to a short story to becoming a prequel to Speaker for the Dead.

One interesting thing he said, the difference between SF and Fantasy is the SF has rivets and Fantasy has trees.
