Another successful flash here...Thanks!
One question...what does the "Paging Type" selection do. I have choices of "normal" and "Option". |

I'm trying to replace one of the system fonts (tt0011m_.ttf) but it doesn't seem to be working with my font (Liberation Sans). With the supplied font from test-startup it works just fine, I see the new font, but I need romanian characters: șțăâî.
Using FontCreator I renamed Liberation name, family name, etc. They are the same as the supplied font. Can it be the font size? Mine is 149k while the 'original' is 58k. Please advise. Thanks. |

Thanks for the link to SonyFont, it's a great tool but unfortunately it didn't produce a font that would show on the reader.
I tried to convert Liberation Sans Regular to sans (tt0003m_.ttf) with it. I've tried other fonts as well, like Verdana, but still the font from the firmware was loaded instead of the one from test-startup. I ended up extracting tt0011m_.ttf and tt0003m_.ttf from the firmware, adding the missing characters, and putting these updated fonts in test-startup. This time it worked, I have all the Romanian characters that I need, everywhere, in TOC, LRF, book list, etc. All I need now is time to read ![]() |

Same problem here : I tried the Sonyfont program but it says "Failed to locate table "glyf"". Maybe because it's an otf font and not ttf ? I tried to follow the "very detailed guide" on this forum, changing the font name with FontCreator, but it wouldn't work either (maybe I have to change font family as well ?)

Another thing is : I don't understand the difference between using the custom css file to define the fonts used and replacing the default fonts...What files would be impacted in one case and not the other ?

1. You can only use TrueType fonts (.ttf) on the reader. Appendix A in the guide mentions that you need to convert the OpenType font (.otf) to TrueType (using FontCreator for example.) The you can use SonyFont to create the final font.
2. Fonts defined in the custom css file are used only for epub files, while the default fonts are used everywhere. The sans font in the reader's interface (Home Screen for example) and the serif font for the book content (txt, lrf, epub). The font from custom css overrides the default font, but you can still have a font embedded in the book that overrides the previous two. |

Thanks goaspy, it's clearer now. As I mostly read epub and don't care about the interface's font, I will stick with the custom css. Where do you get all the informations from though I wondered ? Only from the translated thread on the-ebook.org or there's another source ?
On another note, since there's a procedure to execute a shell script at startup, do we now have such things as network over usb ? |

MobileRead is my main source of information, I only check the thread on the-ebook.org to see if there's a new version available. The rest is trial and error
![]() The second part is for someone else to answer, I only use it to replace the default fonts, but I'm eager to learn new tricks. Btw, what happens if the internal memory is formatted (manually or automatically, it happened with my old 600) while the fonts from test-startup are loaded? After format and restart, startup.sh is missing and the regular system fonts will be used again. |
