'sigh.

One week of warm 78 degree weather, then rain all weekend.

More rain tomorrow. May even get a whole inch overall.

Ye Gods and little lizards.

To be fair, I did offer to move to Austin. Not that I knew what I was getting into but still.

Besides, I just got back from driving my truck in the middle of our latest snowstorm and while I have to admit I'm all about some 4-wheel-drive and ABS, I'd miss the snow too much. We have it 3 months out of the year, that's just north of just right as far as I'm concerned.

Yesterday I removed all of the snow around my scooter and started it up for the first time in 2 months and rode it to the end of the driveway and back. There's not a whole lot of 2 wheeled commuting weather in the next 10 days.

...when it's two weeks after a major snow-storm, and the city still hasn't come to plow out the back alley. Not a problem for me, but two elderly neighbors can't get their cars out of their driveways because there's still 16 inches of snow in the alley! They've been calling the city's hot-line every day for two weeks, but nothing had come of it as of Saturday .

So... My wife and I just spent more than half our weekend digging out the alley so our neighbors can get to the store, pick up their medications, etc. Yes, it would have been easier to just give them a lift to the store, but they just won't ask for that kind of help. So now I need to figure out how to get the city to pay for all the sore muscles I have today. (Owwwww!)

And while we're at it, can we organize a neck-tie party for the genius who decided to save money by having only 50 plows for the entire city? And the brilliant folks who signed a union contract with the snow-plow drivers that forbids having any of the city's other drivers run any vehicle with a plow on it. There're lots more than 50 dump-trucks in the public works department. And they're all equipped with attachments for plows. Even the garbage trucks have attachments for plows. But noooooo! We can't put plows on any of those vehicles, because anything with a plow must be driven by a member of the right union, and the city only has fifty of those. Letting the other public works department drivers run a plow would violate the union contract, and we can't possibly have that. Far better to have all the secondary roads still with only one lane clear TWO FARKING WEEKS after the *^%*&^% snow storm.

Xenophon
(maybe this should have gone in the Vent & Rant thread, but...)

P.S. OK. A neck tie party is really a bit too extreme. Can we just tar and feather them and then run them out of town on a rail?

Now, now, tar and feathering is much too good for them...And it costs money! (Have you priced oil lately?) Here's a Red approved better answer...

Tie 'em all to an individual rail (to the left, one per rail ) and plant each rail in a random alley... And the only people who can look for them have to drive a snow plow....

If this is considered too cruel, just tie the paychecks to the random rails.....

this type of phenomena happened 20odd years ago in Denver (a city you'd think would be ready right?). the answers from the Mayors office were along the lines of "we're letting the sun take care of the clearing" and equally assinine things. this resulted in there now being "snow routes" streets that are guaranteed plowed and you are guaranteed towed if there is another monster snow. it was also nice for people like me... I had a 1970 Toyota Land Cruiser that my Dad had bought a plow attachment for with the understanding I would plow out the Gun Club's driveway and certain other friends, after that I was on my own. I made an average of 3-5k during really bad snowstorms!
