I agree. I have to kill my processes too. I guess I will try to install on my Win7x32 netbook and if that doesnt work, I will use the xp partition on my netbook, but what a pita. I wonder if it has anything to do with having ADE already installed.

Also to any who knows, if I install Reader Library on my netbook without ADE installed, what links my adobe account to my sony account as they are totally different accounts.

That shouldn't create a problem. If you already have an Adobe ID, you can either change your user name and password (if you can) to match your Sony account and Sony will automatically sign you in, or you can leave it and do two sign ins (according to the Sony site).

The sony software is weird on the Mac. Because it forces me to login every time to get to the Sony store.. but it uses the Digital Editions password stored in my key chain to get my Adobe ID credentials. Why the heck can't it store my sony password in the keychain so I don't have to login every time?

Not that I really use this software much. But, Sony really needs a usability person to help them smooth out some of the kinks in this software.

Those tools were installed on my "old" PC.
I installed the new Sony software on my old PC. It didn't have ADE installed. No problems with the install at all

I downloaded the old freebies that were available in ePub and the new ones I didn't have already. Copied them to the new PC with ADE installed and tried to liberate them. No luck. ADE could also not open them.

Installed ADE on the old PC and when I tried to authorize it, it already showed as authorized. Seems that Sony gives you an ID based on your e-mail address you registered with. My new PC was authorized with another e-mail address that's why it didn't work.

Installed Python etc. on the old PC, generated a new key and then managed to liberate them all without problems.

I think a better option would be to abandon the idea of only having the web store available via their software. Should cause much less hassles for people that already have ADE and want to use Calibre without having to add Sony software as well.

I have to log in everytime I open it too on my PCs. It saves my username but not my password. I can surf the store but I can't buy anything or look at my account until I login.

Same here on win XP Bob. It won't remember my password, have to enter it (sometimes several times) every session.

Yes, I know, I've used it on Windows too. But you said if you had a different Adobe ID that Sony Id you had to login TWICE?

I was saying on the Mac it will get that second login from the keychain which is great, but not the first login which is a bummer.

Hope that clarifies what I was saying.

Does it give you a way to "remember" your Adobe ID credentials on Windows. I have yet to load 3.1 up on my Windows PC (which I use at work).

Much like Crusader was saying, I see no way to link a different Adobe account to the Ebook library software. It appears it generates its own user/pass combination for ade if ade isn't installed.

I'm pretty happy - I have a vista 64 bit install and it went smoothly. I bought 5 books knowing that I can read them on other platforms. I wouldn't ever buy the .lrx books.

I found the store to be faster, but I really, really wish they'd go to a web based store instead of through their software. I can't use the page up and down keys on my laptop - instead I have to move the cursor to the scroll bars and it's a hassle.

Considering some suggestions I went and turned OFF my firewall and still no go. Won't let me go to the Reader Store. Says to check my internet connection. I tried calling support but after being on hold forever I gave up. I emailed them too and they said in their email response to call. Jeez!

This one thing alone is almost, but not quite, reason enough to get a Kindle.

I didn't - I did go into the Sony Library (older one) and have it check for updates and followed the prompts...
