I have to agree with that black is what I would have ordered. I have the EzReader 6 inch and I am waiting for a hopefully 9 inch ereader with great support for pdfs. I love the pdf support on the Ezreader and so looking forward to a 9 inch ezreader

Not really the only thing that I find bigger is the distance I have to drive to get any where. Other than that everything seems to same size.

For the record, my purple one is peeling on the left hand side page turn buttons. I am debating on whether I want to bother to exchange it. If it stays confined to the two buttons I can probably deal with it. Has anyone had the peeling spread all over, or has is mostly remained in a confined area? I've had some other problems with the device. I had trouble doing the firmware update because on the web page there are some icons that block the instructions. That was really frustrating. Finally by googling it I found the instructions unobstructed on the FAQ page. Most of the other problems I've had are related to uploading and downloading books and their different formats. I'm not sure if these are faults of the device or (most likely) simply because this is my first ereading device and I am a slow learner.

Which colour would be with no paint ? I mean, is there any astak that does not suffer the peeling ? I am about to buy one, and I am thinking white ?

As has been said several times, the black ones do not seem to be peeling - mine certainly isn't. And, as has also been said, what people are calling paint is actually a "rubberized" coating. I think it creates a very nice feel when you are holding it and definitely reduces the change of it slipping out of your hand. I think it's a feature - not a way to change colors.

I expect that over time with enough handling or abuse, it may wear away in places. But it certainly shouldn't be peeling and this indicates a manufacturing problem - at least with some units.

It has been reported that the black and white ones do not have this issue, by many owners as well as RobertB a few posts back, so if you want to be certain to avoid the peeling issue, go for one of those. As for the colors, It appears to be all of them. At least, I have seen reports of it with the blue, red and purple. Haven't seen any pink peeling reports, but that is likely more due to that being the least popular color.
As for me, my red one is wrinkly on the back and slight blistering along the bezel and forward page turn button on front. If I thought it would simply stay that way and not get worse, I would keep it. As I suspect it will spread, I will exchange it. Certainly do not want a refund as I love it, and I am just bummed about having to go through the exchange process and being without it. But Astak is certainly making it as painless as they reasonably could, and they continue to get high marks from me for responsiveness.
Unless I hear they are stone-cold certain they have this issue under control, I will most likely ask for a black unit. While it is a beautiful red color, having it not peel is far more important than a nice color.

BTW : I keep calling it red and not maroon, for to paraphrase from Lloyd Bentsen : Senator, I knew Maroon. I worked with Maroon. Maroon was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Maroon.

The Black and White versions are the "standard" off the shelf ones. The other colors are the recent changes.

Ugh. So I ordered my purple one on Sept. 16, and the colour issue broke on the 17th.
I live in Canada, but had it sent to our US address in order to bypass silly customs and Canada Post.
I just emailed Astak to ask if it had been shipped out yet (all I got was an email saying I'd purchased it), and they just replied with a tracking number- apparently it arrived on the 19th.
Chances are I won't get down there to pick it up till the first week of October, at which point I'll have to instantly turn around at the Post Office and ship it back

So, some questions:

1) Any Canadians order one yet, and had to pay extra for Customs? How much more was the shipping?

2) Robertb said something about letting them sit longer to let the rubber coating cure, am I reading that right? So technically, if it's been sitting an extra couple of weeks, might it set properly and I'll be happy with it, or am I dreaming?

3) What is the return process, are we to email them, and they'll email me a return shipping label? ETA: Just read what griffonwing quoted, that Astak would send a shipping label....

Ugh. I do still hope I'll love it

is the body under the wrinkly/blistering part white/grey or red plastic?

Could you perhaps post some large pictures about that part?

My maroon PP was the white/gray plastic under the 'paint'.

White and black were done differently and have no problem with peeling of the paint. Actually, however, all of the ones sitting in our warehouse now, including the ones in the four colours, have been scrutinized carefully and deliberately and they have no problem. The first ones that shipped did not have time for the paint to set and that was the problem.

You can feel VERY SURE right now that what is shipped now will be 100% hand checked to assure there is no trace of a problem. We are not taking chances.

Don't know how much shipping is. But cingkrab posted customs charges. They are shipped with USPS which only charges 5$ brokerage fee and you have to pay sales taxes depending on which province you live in (ie. GST, HST, PST). Maybe cingkrab or someone else can give you the shipping cost to Canada.

Actually, yes, the sitting at the U.S. post office should serve you well. Ours here are fine now and are not exhibiting any problems. The paint should have set and yours should be fine unless the paint peeling started already (very slight chance).

Suzy... we are very sorry for this doubt and inconvenience and frustration. We DO stand behind the product and we will make it right if it is not already. Do not let this ruin the fact that this is a great ebook reader and in short order should be outstanding in every way.
