Not strictly true. FAT32 doesn't support symbolic links in the usual UNIX sense, but Microsoft did cruft "shortcuts" on top of it by creating small files (extension ".lnk" if memory serves) containing a pointer to the real thing.

But I don't know that anyone ever bothered supporting this hack beyond Microsoft's own APIs.

As you say, Jon, "lnk" files are only recognised by the high level "Shell API" in Windows. They are not a feature of the file system itself, as symbolic links are in Unix file systems.

Maybe you can reformat it to an ext2 file system? It did not work for older firmwares (I have tested it) but maybe it works for newer ones.

Yes, with the correct driver inWindows. But why would you need to mount it in Windows if you are a Linux user?

But you might not be a Linux user. I can think of all sorts of useful reasons for having symbolic links on my Opus, even though I am a Windows user. Eg, I might want to have multiple ways to categorise my books using folders (by category and by author, for example), but not want to have multiples copies of the book on the device. With symbolic links on the Opus file system I could do that.

Noreve.com sent me an email this morning. The cover for the Opus is now available. Pricey at $63.74, but I really need a cover rather than a pouch.

I wonder if BoB will be getting the cover and if it will be any cheaper. They're cheaper on the Opus itself (at least for those of us in the US).

Thanks for checking. Not a huge deal for me. I just know you can do it with Collections on the Sony, so thought I'd ask while I wait for my Opus.
