You could have a point there, Andybaby. In any case, the dust spots don't bother me as much. If it gets to be unbearable before the year warranty is up, then I'll send it to Sony.

My new PRS700 replacement has dust spots right out of the box. Only three, one medium bright one and two dim ones, all at the bottom centre of the screen. Again, only noticeable when reading in the dark with the sidelights on. Reading in the daylight there is no problem. I'm disappointed, but willing to live with these few since they are in a place that isn't too distracting and since there are only three. Hopefully they won't multiply. I plan on keeping this one unless there is some kind of recall or trade-in on a newer model. SOny really has to get some quality control going here. How much would it take to put someone in a dark room and test these out before they ship them out. WDE. |

But it hasn't been a problem whatsoever on my new phone, which leads me to believe it was a faulty seal. No idea if the same applies to the PRS-700s, but there's at least some hope that this isn't just a flawed design.

Sorry to hear about your continuing issues with dust spots, WDE. Your experience has actually put me off from taking my 700 in for maintenance. What's the point of giving up my reader for weeks and not even getting the problem resolved? Oh well, I've kind of gotten used to the dust spots so unless they multiply like crazy I guess I'll leave well enough alone.

Is there no valid way of cleaning this without completely disassembling the reader?
