I'm glad that I own two Voyage models. LOVE the buttons since touch screens don't like me very much.

Don’t need color, but the new Paperwhite looks interesting, especially since I’m using a 2nd generation Paperwhite.

I saw a video of a guy doing rapid page turns on the new Paperwhite and the speed was really something. Each page was clearly rendered in the part of a second it was displayed.

I have a Clara BW with a Carta 1300 and rapid page turns aren't nearly as impressive. The text gets mushed and mixed when I rapidly turn pages.

In the end though, it's kind of a trick without a purpose. How often do I rapidly flick through a book? And when I do, does the state of text on the screen for a part of a second really matter?

I mean, I guess an improvement over good enough for almost anyone is still an improvement.

Albeit one that matters more on paper than in practice.

But line must go up, I suppose

I think I saw the same video. It made me think I might be able to get used to a reader without buttons. I bought my PW3 after my Voyage died. I didn’t like it because the page turns seemed slow. I would tap to turn the page and think it didn’t work so I would tap again and turn multiple pages. I wonder if the Colorsoft will be as fast as the Paperwhite on plain black and white pages.

I know that color is not necessary for just reading books, but I love looking at my colorful covers on my iPad.

The latter is preferred as it supports spreads (both 1x width for covers and 2x width that display in 2 page view). (Kindle platform supports facing pages/spreads for Kindle comic format in landscape orientation)

PDFs do not support 'spreads' so you would need to split 2x width images in half before creating PDF from the image set. And PDFs are converted to print replica format, and that does not currently support 2 page view no matter how large the display might be.

Calibre will import CB* files, but does not support conversion to other formats. It will do a conversion, but it's unlikely to be usable. I don't know why there's no plugin that will do conversion of CB format after all this time. I guess it's only Kindle that doesn't have native support for CB format.

If you extract CBR images, Kindle Comic Converter will create fixed layout ePub and set correct reading order for manga. You would need to add ToC if you want one with an ePub editor, and Send To Kindle will convert to KFX comic format (but no panel view).

You can also generate a side-loadable KFX comic with Panel View and ToC using the free Kindle Create tool from Amazon to output KPF (Kindle publishing format) and KFX Output plugin to convert the KPF to KFX. The plugin will also do a good conversion from comic book KFX to fixed layout ePub, PDF and CBZ.

Yes, it could/should be a lot simpler given how simple CB format is. Amazon could surprise us and add CB format support to Send To Kindle once people with Colorsofts start requesting it.
Thank you for the cogent reply! Well, no, that is not how I want to have to use an ereader. One thing about the Color PB I have is that it is incredibly easy to use with cbr/cbz files. You just drag them over. And it even preserves the folder structure(s). Of course the screen is a Kaleido Two and rather sucks.

Guess I will be one of the first to cancel a pre-order. Oh, well.

I didn't much like the haptic buttons on the Voyage, but they would be better than no buttons at all. Still, I preferred my Oases with their physical buttons over the Voyage.

It's sad that Amazon who never had an ereader without buttons for 15 years, is now the only one who no longer has them.

I agree, to me way too pricey

And yes officially not planning on buttons again, unless they change their minds one day

“Once current inventory of Kindle Oasis sells out online and in stores, we will not restock the device,” Amazon’s Devon Corvasce says in a statement. “Today, all of our devices are touch-forward which is what our customers are comfortable with.”

You should feel lucky. The color is rubbish. It also makes BW text worse.

Colorsoft could be just as rubbish as the Libra Colour. I would wait to find out if the color is any better on the Kindle. if it's no better then it's not worth getting.

I think the new PW6 would be a good upgrade for your PW2. I think you'll love the larger screen.

When I traded in an old Kindle for my Scribe purchase, I got the 20% discount at purchase, even though I had not yet sent it in. I got the gift card after they got the old Kindle.

Note that I don't mention what kind of "old Kindle", because I don't know. I literally bought a used/refurbished one at Woot, then immediately turned it in for the discount and gift card. The gift card was exactly the same amount as I paid for the Kindle, so it turned out I got 20% off just for slapping a new UPS label on a box that Amazon sent to me.

Also, that 20% discount applies to bundles, too. I bought the Scribe in a bundle with a cover and a charger, and got 20% off the bundle price.

Note the Scribe bundle I purchased in July of 2023 cost $341 and now costs $474. This is before trade in, gift card, etc. With those, I paid $246.
