To answer your earlier question, when the Clara 2E was announced on Sep 1, 2022, people already knew about it at least a month before. Maybe we'll hear something this month?

To answer your earlier question, when the Clara 2E was announced on Sep 1, 2022, people already knew about it at least a month before. In May of that year, Nate of the ereader Blog was wondering aloud if Kobo would even release something that year. So from July or so when the first hints arrived (that's a guesstimate on my part. I couldn't find the thread), to wild speculation like in this thread to "Hey, there's a case for something called the Kobo Clara 2E on Rakuten's site" in August, to an official announcement in September, the whole process only took 2-3 months, closer to two. The Elipsa had a small window from FCC discovery to official announcement as well. Maybe we'll hear something this month?

The timing would be odd. Instead of releasing it before Christmas to potentially increase sales, they'll let our Christmas present be information about a future release?

I agree with you as far as bad timing for Christmas, though technically, it’s still before Christmas, but he was inquiring about the timing of previous windows from leak to announcement IIRC.

In a curious coincidence, Nate wondered aloud in August if a new Kobo ereader would be released this Fall. In October, two months later, there was a leak. And now we’re in December. IF it follows the Clara 2E pattern, this is the month for an announcement. But honestly, it’s all just speculation, and my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek. The most informed opinion for an estimated announcement is “soon”.

Ha! Well, “soon” is fairly relative, but without more information, it’s the best “guess”.

Historically, what's the average time between first FCC sighting and some sort of product hint from Kobo? This thread is now 3 months old, there's not even oblique hints like (possibly) run-out sales on any Kobos

Well, I’ve covered the release windows of the previous two ereaders, but I have no idea what the average is. If they had followed the pattern of the previous two devices, then we should’ve heard about something in December, but the timing on that was off. Why release something in the middle of December? We probably won’t hear anything until around Mother’s Day. Isn’t that a typical release period for them?

I don't know when your Mother's Day is, that's one of the most varied 'celebrations' around the world in terms of dates. But your comment does relate to what I find odd. I was definitely NOT expecting a new device before Xmas. I would normally have expected a new device somewhere between the March equinox and June solstice. Which could mean 8 months or so from the first sighting of the FCC .THAT feels like a longer delay than usual.

I'm a bit impatient now because I'm starting to think my Sage might be past its prime but the FCC notice makes me think SOMETHING is coming 'soonish' and sod's law says that if I replace my Sage before any new device is announced, that purchase will be the trigger for the announcement of the new device.

I have a Sage arriving in about 12 hours. The Fintie case already arrived. Looking forward to checking it out since processor, memory and screen are all supposedly significant upgrades since my Aura One. And I'll have buttons again! (Compared to my Kindle) Yay!

Yes, I really like my Sage. That's why I'm hoping that this almost vaporware device will turn out to be a beefed up Sage. Even a small increase in battery capacity would be good. Even better if they offered an updated Forma, an 8-inch device without any note-taking nonsense added.

If a Forma 2 had existed instead of the Sage, I probably would have bought it over the Libra 2, but I opted for the better screen of the newer device. I kind of doubt we'll ever see a Forma 2E at this point, though. The standard is for 8" devices and larger to have note taking these days, and it's cheaper for Kobo to sell one device where people can ignore the note taking than to sell two devices that are almost the same when demand probably doesn't justify it.

Oh absolutely. I agree completely that an 8-inch without note-taking is vanishingly unlikely, but I likes to dream

Well, that's a 3rd party blog with a mad amount of 3rd party scripts, video and amazon adverts. It's basically listing that there is an FCC filing. The real FCC is at fcc.gov, not fcc.io

Note that the main reason for FCC involvement is because it has a radio in it. Clue in the name.
