True, both poles led to the Bat Cave; but, they entered as Bruce and Dick and emerged as Batman and Robin. Somewhere along the way they changed into their costumes and one can venture a guess that if they got the wrong pole then they would also end up wearing the wrong costume.

My favourite question is, "If the Professor [not our professor; Gilligan's professor] can make a decent short-wave radio out of coconuts, why can't he make a simple repair to the hull of a boat?".

If this was an actual danger, then I can understand why they would label the poles with their names. The potential confusion could lead to something catastrophic. However, I think we both need to step back from this and examine the inherent danger of Batman wearing Robin's costume, and Robin wearing Batman's costume.

First, we must ask ourselves these questions:

1) Will the suits fit?
2) Would Batman talk like Robin?
3) Would Robin suddenly gain a slighter degree of intelligence?
4) Would Batman loses his special Bat powers? (which do not include intelligence, by the way).
5) Would the Butler get confused?

These are only some of the questions that would provoke much controversy and thought.

I leave it to other individuals to tease out the possibly dangerous implications of what would happen if Batman and Robin wore the wrong costumes. The welfare of the known universe literally boggles with the dire implications of this possibility.

Duh, he was trapped on a desert island with Ginger and Mary Ann. He just came up with all those inventions to make everyone _think_ he was trying to get them rescued. He was also trying to get rid of Gilligan, by leaving hazardous materials and inventions around and specifically pointing them out to the incorrigibly curious first mate. He probably figured the Howells wouldn't last long on the island being used to a pampered life. And the skipper would eventually be done in by his own clogged arteries.

1) Given the height difference, probably not. Robin would get the better deal though.
