Huh? How is organising collections on a Sony using calibre easier than for a Kobo? Is it that there are some other options related to removing collections? Because, I mean, both drivers have a field to enter the names of the columns to create collections from. Or is it that for Kobo, you aren't restricted in which columns you can use?

It isn't about the book formats. And it isn't just epub and kepub. It is about what is on the database. Sure, I have a very good idea of what is in the database right now. But, there have been far to many changes. I have no real interest in playing catchup with the rest of the data for each book. Overall, the benefit is just not there. Unplugging the device and plugging doesn't actually take much time. And works.

Thanks for the clarification, which makes sense.

And you are doing an excellent job, please don't think that I think otherwise.

FWIW, I'm back on calibre version 3.x, have a mixture of Kobos (most recent being the Forma) with various firmware versions, and calibre/the plugins work well. Very impressive!

Honestly, most people who mess this up are overthinking it. All you need to do is set the column name. And remember for custom columns that you need the "#" at the start of the name.

The hardest part is figuring out how to create a new column if you haven't ever done that before.

Thanks for your comments (except for Sirtel's, obviously). I don't have a Kobo atm, but if I do get one I'm sure I will work it out.

Yeah, I also didn't read the manual for how to put on my socks; see the attachment for how that went.

Dunno about you, but I've looked things up in the calibre user manual many times. Basically every time I didn't know how to do something.

But yeah, I know many people wouldn't touch user manuals with a barge pole. I've never understood this attitude. Granted, there certainly are people who can barely read, but calibre users are probably not among those.

The other issue to consider is that possibly many users have English as a second language, and reading great swathes of dry text may be too difficult.

Calibre user manual is available in several languages. I don't know how good the translations are (heck, I didn't even know until now it's available in my own native language - I've always used the English original ), but at least they exist.

Uh! There is a menu icon that says Add Your own Columns
True, you do need to understand a tiny bit about Data Types if you just wing it. But most PI have instructional material on how to install here at MR. Those include the column (data) Type
