There is a concern that we won’t reach the necessary number of 70% of adults vaccinated to reach herd immunity. We will have enough vaccine, but polls seem to indicate a fairly large number of people who don’t want to get it. No doubt those are the chicken squats Dolly was referring to. There will of course be many others who can’t get the vaccine for medical reasons or other uncontrollable reasons, and they still haven’t decided if they will recommend it for kids.

This. I was surprised to notice how many science sites had articles on just how difficult it is to compare the efficacy of the various vaccines. Seems the number of variables is so great as to make it a difficult task even for those who have dedicated their lives to such work. But I'm happy with what's been done so far to ensure we have safe and effective vaccines.

In the UK it looks like we'll have the necessary number of people vaccinated. Already, in the 70+ age group, 95% of people have had their first shot of a vaccine.

We do seem to have the usual problem of uneven coverage, with affluent members of the majority being most likely to have had the vaccine and poorer minorities least likely. I don't know whether this is because they're not being reached to be offered the vaccine, or whether they are not taking up the offer.

Neither of those is a contraindication, as we discussed upthread - that option in the poll is deeply misleading.. The ONLY medical contraindication to the Pfizer/Moderna shot is allergy to an ingredient in the vaccine. It is not a live virus vaccine and is actively recommended that immunosuppressed/immunocompromised people get it as soon as possible.

Again, the option in the poll was merely meant to be descriptive and not proscriptive, a finding out of what people think, not telling them what to think. If someone’s looking for medical information in a MR poll, they’ve got more issues than whether or not to vaccinate.

Which is why I said "misleading" and not "a lie".

Regardless of not being a reputable source, the more people repeat dangerous nonsense, the more other people start to believe it. Antivaxxer nonsense from non-reputable sources has had an enormous, cumulative influence on population beliefs.

It's not even balanced with an "My immune system is compromised so I will get the vaccine as soon as I possibly can" option - it's just there by itself implying that immunocompromise is a reason to avoid a COVID shot.

I'd have no issue if, for example, it said "I have an anaphylactic allergy to an ingredient in the vaccine, so I'm not getting one". That's a far more sensible option, yet it's not there either.

And zero people have said yes to it, so why not remove it?

I wasn't on here during the time the poll was open so I didn't vote. I'm under 65 and don't have any special medical conditions so I'm not eligible yet. I do plan to get the vaccine when it's available to me.

Given how difficult it's been for people to get appointments even with limited numbers of people allowed to get it so far, I can only imagine how difficult it will be to get an appointment once the vaccine is available to everyone. We'll probably have to be checking websites all day long for weeks just to get an appointment....

It’s not inaccurate if it reflects what someone thinks, which is all a poll is trying to ascertain. And since as DiapDealer pointed out, no one chose it, that means that no one here thinks that. Isn’t that, uh, good?

To be fair, I think what he said was that there would be enough supply for everyone by then. I don't expect to be able to get mine till summer. We moved to the 65+ group in the last couple of days. My roommate, who turned 66 last month, just got his first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech today. In fact, he got home while I was typing this. The appointment process was easy, he did it online last night, and they emailed him a pdf copy of the info he had entered. But the actual vaccination site location wasn't on the pdf or easily visible anywhere on the web site. Google sorted that out, as the local news channels had been running stories on it and those came up when searching, but we don't watch local news much, and we don't use Facebook (another place they apparently listed it). I find it so bizarre that they just don't have some highly visible mention on the actual vaccination info page or during the appointment process stating that the vaccine clinic is at Music City Center.

But his experience was smooth otherwise.

I'm hoping that by the time my age group comes up, local supply will be such that I can get it at my doctor's office. Many doctor's offices have been getting limited supply of each of the approved vaccines for the past few weeks but they run out very quickly. I'm definitely getting the vaccine but I'm fine waiting as long as it takes. I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere. I've left the property twice in the past year. Once on March 9, 2020, after the tornado but right before Covid swooped down, and once in November. I'm a natural hermit so I'm good.

On a side note, I understand why the poll option that is being discussed was included. My mother is currently using that excuse but I'm pretty sure that's not her actual reason. Her actual reason, which she knows I'll shoot down instantly, is also nonsense but not a topic for this forum. She hasn't yet realized that there's going to be reckoning - If I'm vaccinated and she isn't, I'm still not comfortable going to see her for a very long time. A friend of hers is going through cancer treatments, and I'm hoping that between him, his doctors and her doctors, she will eventually make a choice based on rationality. But I can't tell her what to do, I can only tell her what I won't do.

In my state (NH), they started doing the 65+ crowd in late January. They’re hoping to clear out all of those whose first appointment isn’t until April this three-day weekend with the newly arrived J&J shot. Then they’ll start scheduling the 2a group, K to 12 employees, next week, presumably in the April slots they’ve opened up.

I'm in the unusual position of having chosen to shelter in place with my 84 year old father. I worried for months and months that I was going to drag something back to him. Working from home... curbside pickup for groceries... online ordering for everything else--the works. Now that he's two weeks past his second Moderna shot, he's itching to start "getting back out there".

I can't blame him (he's got two daughters that are vaccinated and a great-grandson he's only seen in the flesh a couple of times from a distance), but I have to gently remind him that the roles have reversed now. I'd like him to return the favor of doing everything in his power not to drag something back to me. Especially since the official answer to "Can someone who's been vaccinated still transmit the virus?" is still "we don't know".

That only means no one thinks they are immunocompromised and not able to take the vaccine.
But anybody else, who's not documented or aware of the situation, reads this answer, and might make the wrong association that the vaccines can be hurtful for immunocompromised people.

Update as of this evening: the 50+ group can start to register on March 22 with first vaccinations starting March 25. The gov says the state is way ahead of schedule.
