If the Kindle had Kobos font functionality and margin settings it would be the perfect ereader. However Kobos hardware is pretty flimsy and no two Kobo devices are the same to me... another thing that sucked about the Kobo was that about six months after the release of a new device, they just stop updating it! They just leave their devices high and dry with multiple bugs and all. The reading stats (another awesome feature the Kindle needs) hasnt worked properly in about ten years. It reminds me of the Blackberry way - nice phones but as soon as a new model supersedes an old one, the old one no longer gets any updates and after a while is rendered totally useless! Not fair! Amazon invests heavily into their updates. They seem indebted to constantly improving and upgrading their Kindle. Rakuten it seems couldn’t give a toss! |

I believe my Kobo Glo still gets updates, and it was released in 2012. If you read the Kobo forums, the general rule is that all the Kobo models run basically the same firmware.

And I meant that Kobo doesn’t seem to update their line of ereadera for months and months, not that they forget about discontinued ereaders. They may update all of them but I do remember going months without seeing any updates at all. It’s part of the reason I gave up on the brand. I was just using the Blackberry thing as a similar example (who I gave up on also, just after I was done with my Priv, even though I loved the look of their keyOne...) disloyalty much lol Last edited by cerem0ny; 07-26-2019 at 09:43 PM.

A long delay between FW updates is an entirely different thing than End-of-Life'ing a device and dropping support. (And both sides of the fence have done the former -- except it usually comes as a blessing when it's Amazon, because it means that stuff will keep working as-is for a little while longer ;p). Hell, you can apparently still update the original Kobo Touch to the exact same FW than the latest Forma is running. Whether said updates come in what might be considered a timely fashion and whether they actually fix issues or add new ones, that's an entirely different can of worms . True but in both cases you’re missing updates/upgrades. A ‘long delay between updates’ is a pretty generous way to put it..

I’m going to mention my kindle oasis 3, which I received yesterday! So, I noticed that the good ereader video review mentioned that the gyroscope is less sensitive this time round, with less screen flipping. I can confirm that the screen rotation is definitely harder to trigger on the Oasis 3, which is a good thing, as the Oasis 2 would flip very easily, even sometimes flipping when I put it down on a flat surface. So that is better. And it seems that amazon must changed the position of the auto wake magnet(s), which means generic covers that were thought to be compatible for 9th and 10th gen are actually not. I suppose the official Amazon covers must either have a bigger magnet which still covers the new position, or maybe a magnetic strip? I sent my generic cover back and have treated myself to a merlot leather one. The screen is beautiful to read on. That’s it. |

Just got an update for expected delivery of 7-29. Amazon shows shipped, UPS still says only origination scan from Ontario California. Straight up BS. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk |

Thank you for confirming this. I know that for many it is irrelevant, but it is a big deal to me, and I am very glad not to have been caught by surprise by this subtle change. Looks like I will be sticking with my Oasis 2 and the third-party, thin, magnetic cover that works so well me. Best regards!

@Gstvsn It does not work. The description has changed since I bought it : Not for the new Kindle Oasis 2019 has been added. Also, I think it's too heavy, and I will buy something like this: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07GRJM33T/ At least, there will be no problem at all. |

Can I just say how nice it is to not have to swipe to open the screen every single time like on my Oasis1? I missed that. And my God, that screen is gorgeous. |

Can anyone tell me if the amazon fabric water safe covers are compatible with the Oasis; I really don't want to get the leather case, even if that is the only option. I'll be getting my Oasis soon and want to make sure I ordered the right case, as I'm not familiar with the Oasis at all. Thanks; |
