I always downloaded my purchased books and sideloaded them. Back when I bought ebooks from B&N, there was no guarantee that they would be formatted well or have a working table of contents. Ebooks have gotten better since the days of my Nook ST, but the habit has stuck with me.

Interesting apology email from BN this morning that the new Glowlight Plus has “sold out online and in many of our stores” and offering notification when restocked, plus $10 gift card. Feeble marketing ploy or more bad planning?

I don't think it was either. New tech being more popular than anticipated happens all the time. If anything, it seems like it would be good news to those who want larger sized e-ink devices as it shows there is a demand.

Interesting. Sold out? Or withheld until they can all be checked for the dead pixel?

Only a few people have mentioned getting the device here. Could they really have produced so few as to sell out that fast without more MR users seeing the device?

I got mine at the second closest BN store. The closest never came up as having it.

It looks like they gave stores the priority. In Boise, ID (where I live now) they're still in stock. In Fort Worth area (DFW, where I lived) all stores within a 100 miles still have them in stock (17 out of 17). A Houston zip code shows all but one store, 13 out of 14, have them in stock. Same criteria for Los Angeles, 32 out of 34 stores have them in stock. 47 out of 50 stores in NY City area have them in stock. 25 of 27 stores in the Chicago area have them in stock. All 12 stores in the Miami area have them in stock ... etc.

I don't think they're holding them back. I just think they had issues ramping up production. But it's kind of refreshing to see that brick and mortar stores were given the priority for a change. (It kind of sucks, however, if you don't live near a brick and mortar Barnes & Noble.)

You can never tell what he made up on the fly and what he stole elsewhere. Usually the bits and pieces goodereader plagiarizes are true.

I thought that too when I saw the specs on paper but the other night I checked out the new Nook at BN and it actually felt good in the hands. It's thinness and soft texture made it more comfortable to hold than my Oasis with its cold metal surface and asymmetrical design.

Of course holding it for a hour while reading may be a different story but I've noticed that I tend to feel the weight less with larger form factor devices.
