i think that size and kind of a document you are using have much more impact on battery usage then settings it self.
For example i think that ereader has a capacity of 512mb of ram. i don't know how much is used by kobo software it self, but i think that poorly structured epub can cause a crash, and much more battery drain then correctly structured one. so renderig pdf that was made out of HD pictures use much more battery then plain ocr-ed text ones. i had a crash of my KA1 when a book i was reading was created in 1 html file. when i edited same epub (just splitting on 1 html per chapter) all was fine. |

There's one more thing that should be considered when talking about batteries.
There's reported battery state (i.e. percentage you see as displayed on screen), and there's actual battery state. My H2O displays battery state quite differently from my KA1. On H2O when it drops to 30%, I know it is time to start charging it, or I might found myself out of battery. But, on KA1, even if there's a few sudden drops in percentage, it is a bit linear and I don't need to worry even with 10%, I know I have a day or maybe even two of reading and even with 0% I can read for hour or two. To be able to know how long full deep cycle lasts, you always need to push device to the very limit (i.e. when it stops working to protect battery from emptying too much). |

For anyone in the UK who was waiting, the Forma now shows as in stock at the online stores for Argos and PCWorld. So far, nothing at John Lewis or WHSmith.

i'm just saying that if processor is struggling to open a file it uses more battery juice then easy opened documents...
the bigger file is it's more difficult to render then the smaller one, as processor needs more power. so if you constantly reading pdf or cbr it will use more power then epub. it is possible that if i waited a longer device wouldn't crash. after a minute i got anxious and restarted a device, with fixed epub. |

I just got this ereader today and so far I am loving it. Hefty price tag but I really enjoy the reading experience on it.

I got a tad lost following the posts. Has anyone mentioned the battery life on the Forma? I thought about getting one but may wait till another generation comes out or a 32GB model.

I can’t judge yet since I’ve been plugging mine in to apply various patches and screensaver images. So the battery has stayed pretty much topped off |

Battery currently says 70%. Only time I plugged it in was every so often while transferring some EPUBs over. I've been reading mostly at night, at Brightness ~9%-20% or off. It's also been sitting in sleep (not powered off) when not in use. |

Plugging in 'Every so often' can make a pretty big difference, even if it's only a few minutes at a time. Also, if the battery meter on the Forma behaves the same as on the A1, (not saying it does, but a possability to keep in mind,) there can be a few sudden drops by 10% once you get below 70%.
That being said, right off the bat, Forma has a larger battery than Oasis 2, (1200 mAh vs 1000 mAh) and less RAM, so I expect battery life to be noticeably better, (purely based on specs.) That's not even to mention in infamous effects of Kindle indexing can have on battery. |
