Yeah, I'm curious about the plastic substrate clarity as well. Someone mentioned earlier that plastic scratches easier than glass, but don't most modern glass eReaders have a light layer and (where they don't have an IR touchscreen) a capacitive layer over the substrate anyhow? Wouldn't the same thing apply to a plastic substrate?

This probably means there's no internal SD card, which means I probably won't be getting one.
I hope there'll be a complete dissasembly done by some brave soul.

I'm glad it's 300ppi though, as anything lower than that is no good.
pricing is acceptable.

Codename: Frost
would this be a big brother to the H2o v2? that one is codenamed Snow.
Clara is codenamed Nova, which doesn't seem to be related.

The plastic front for the screen is great against fall damage, but the e-ink layer might be more susceptible to pressure damage now.

I saw earlier in this thread that the device is also usable when held with left, and there's 1 picture on which this is seen: http://news.kobo.com/file?fid=5bb283bd2cfac2166bf10793

these are some terribly bad photoshopped pics though, as you can see it's just a mirrored image of the device. (micro USB port and power button placement)

The only comparison I have made was two 13.3 inch Carta 1.2 eInk displays. The Mobius had a higher DPI (206 vs. 150). The contrast and sharpness were not very visibly different to the naked eye--the difference in DPI was noticeable when I was looking at the screen with a 10x magnifier which is not how I normally read.

I suspect the front is the same as on any of Kobo's other recent eInk readers. The Mobius refers to a plastic substrate which should be less susceptible to damage by twisting/bending. I've added the link to an eInk video:

I can see how plastic would be strong against drops and larger sorts of movements that may crack the substrate, but it seems the softer plastic would be more susceptible to scratching, like if you have a bit of sand in your book bag or something.

The substrate is NOT the top surface of the screen. One assumes that the top surface will be the same material as previous readers.

Here’s a hands on view I found on YouTube (en francais) - around the 1:40 mark the reviewer flips the unit to left-handed and after about a second the screen automatically reorients. The video also shows landscape mode and the back texture (she says it feels soft/comfortable) and the comfort light which looks very similar to KA1 (although to me the screen seems wider maybe? Optical illusion?)

Another disappointment for me.

If they wanted it to be more like an Oasis I wish they’d picked the first Oasis body as a starting point. Adding just enough thickness to accommodate the whole battery, ditching the idea of a charging cover, and adding a rubbery coating would have made the first Oasis body perfect for me. Add waterproofing and Kobo’s comfort light and software and I’d pay a small fortune for it.

The world has apparently decided that only going bigger and bigger will command a higher price, unfortunately for me.

oh, right, the light guide layer goes on the top, and that is presumably some type of plastic in all readers.

Looks like the light diffuser is the top layer.
