CNN is sending "breaking news" text messages every time someone projects that one of the candidates is going to win in particular state. That means my cellphone is going to be buzzing like an insane bumblebee bee for the next few hours.

I think I'll turn off the alert sound for the night and turn it back on in the morning. Normally I don't mind those messages. I don't watch the news very often (is that sacrilegious for a former journalism student?) so the text messages keep me clued in on what's going on in the world. I don't mind getting one or two messages a day, but I've gotten three in the past hour. I'm not interested in being that connected to the world and I certainly don't want it to disturb my bedtime reading.

I don't imagine he'll do as bad a job as Bush did ... so, it seems logical to think that Obama could be President for at least as long.

It's sad really .... I so wanted to vote for McCain, but once he chose Palin as his running mate, he lost my vote. I don't think the Republicans will get my vote back until they stop catering to the religious right. Scratch that ... I flat out know they will not get my vote back until they stop catering to the religious right.

You know, I've been thinking about continuing the countdown for President Obama's full term in office. It would be a challenge to my creativity to come up with a one-liner nasty gram everyday. But I won't, and I'll tell you why.

Two reasons. The first is that I think it would be a waste to focus that much energy on such a negative output. The second is that I've come to feel nothing but disdain for people who shit on the sitting President like I've seen here and in many other places. If you don't respect the man, you should at least respect the office.

I've decided that the best way to restore some civility is to lead by example. That is why I will never refer to President Obama in the manner that several here have referred to President Bush.

I do not beleive President Obama will last 8 years. It looks like he will have a Democrat Congress to help him do a bad job.

Nate, the ultimate civility is to respond to people in the manner they prefer. Since the liberal electorate has preferred sneers and insult, I shall communicate with them as they prefer... Besides, I cannot let the republic go quietly into the dark...

Although I've never understood why you can't separate the office from the holder (you've seen what we do to our Prime Ministers here in the UK, right?), I'm with Great Nate here.

An eye for an eye leads to a world that is blind.

Perhaps you could explain the subtle separation between the two with the outgoing president?

The countdown for all future offices should be started now. I'm uniformly dismayed at the poor choices I seem to be left with almost every election and the blame is solely mine (ours). I don't pay enough attention to the people that are running for local offices who eventually graduate to running for the big offices. By the time they get there, they've brushed off all the people who are decent, or so it seems to me. This year, I was so anxious to vote early that I forgot to learn about the people running for those little offices so I was condemned to leave them blank. My bad. My very bad. Today is the day to worry about the next election.

No.

Today is the day to start worrying about America. This country has a lot of work to do, and fretting about who will be trying to get our vote 4 years from now would be a waste of time so heinous as to fully invalidate the reason we're all in this country.

A historic moment has come for the office of President. But more importantly, there are things that this country has needed to do for the past 20-30 years, which have been blocked by lobbyists and greedy politicians. We need to reverse that trend now. America needs to put its differences aside, and start to work together again.

Obama's campaign slogan was "Yes we can."

America's new slogan needs to be "Yes, WE WILL."

Who's with me?
