All five of the English translations of Oliver Pötzsch's Hangman's Daughter titles have dropped to $2.00 at Kindle US. All five of these have been translated under the auspices of Amazon's AmazonCrossing imprint. (Notice the careful wording - last time my wording led to way too much discussion about whether they were or were not actually "translated by AmazonCrossing..." )

link for all five: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...&price=200-200

Titles are:
  • The Hangman's Daughter
  • The Dark Monk
  • The Beggar King
  • The Poisoned Pilgrim
  • The Werewolf of Bamberg

Two of the titles (the first one and the most recent one) in Ruth Downie's excellent (IMO) Gaius Petreius Ruso and Tilla historical series have dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

Medicus (apa Ruso and the Disappearing Dancing Girls), #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Medicus-Novel...dp/B0013TX7NY/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Divorced and down on his luck, Gaius Petreius Ruso has made the rash decision to seek his fortune in an inclement outpost of the Roman Empire, namely Britannia. In a moment of weakness, after a straight thirty six-hour shift at the army hospital, he succumbs to compassion and rescues an injured slave girl, Tilla, from the hands of her abusive owner.
Now he has a new problem: a slave who won't talk and can't cook, and drags trouble in her wake. Before he knows it, Ruso is caught in the middle of an investigation into the deaths of prostitutes working out of the local bar. Now Ruso must summon all his forensic knowledge to find a killer who may be after him next.
With a gift for comic timing and historical detail, Ruth Downie has conjured an ancient world as raucous and real as our own.

Vita Brevis, #7
link: https://www.amazon.com/Vita-Brevis-C...dp/B01DM9Q5U4/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Ruso and Tilla's excitement at arriving in Rome with their new baby daughter is soon dulled by their discovery that the grand facades of polished marble mask an underworld of corrupt landlords and vermin-infested tenements. There are also far too many doctors--some skilled--but others positively dangerous.

Ruso thinks he has been offered a reputable medical practice only to find that his predecessor Doctor Kleitos has fled, leaving a dead man in a barrel on the doorstep and the warning, "Be careful who you trust.Â?? Distracted by the body and his efforts to help a friend win the hand of a rich young heiress, Ruso makes a grave mistake, causing him to question both his competence and his integrity.

With Ruso's reputation under threat, he and Tilla must protect their small family from Doctor Kleitos's debt collectors and find allies in their new home while they track down the vanished doctor and find out the truth about the heiress's dead father--Ruso's patient--and the unfortunate man in the barrel.

A Hearse on May-Day is a bit more than halfway (I'm too lazy to count) through the very long Beatrice Lestrange Bradley series by Gladys Mitchell. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Hearse-May-Da...dp/B00IEJHQ42/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Fenella Lestrange is motoring from her great-aunt Beatrice's house in Wandles Parva to her cousins' manor in Douston, and she is running late. Looking for a place to eat, Fenella stops at the village of Seven Wells and tries her luck at the local inn, called the More to Come. There she learns that the inn was built upon the foundations of an ancient church, and that the village is busy with secret preparations for tonight's Mayering Eve ceremonies. Unable to get more information about this apparently unique pagan holiday (the date being April 30th), Fenella finishes her dinner and returns to her car only to find that the vehicle, working fine moments ago, now won't start.

Frustrated by the delay, she has the car towed to the only garage around, then secures a room for the night at the More to Come. Villagers and the staff at the inn continue to allude to the strange activities that will happen soon. After being told by the landlord, Mr. Shurrock, to bolt her bedroom door for the night, Mrs. Shurrock adds, "Whatever happens, don't you open that door to nobody." Fenella's curiosity soon overtakes the unease she feels, and she slips out of her room to do some investigating. She first encounters the bizarre scene of costumed villagers dressed as the signs of the Zodiac, reading cards at the inn. Scorpio recognizes Fenella as an intruder, and the group turns hostile. Escaping the group, Fenella also becomes spectator to a strange ritual taking place within the crypt of the old church. Inside, a sacrificial skeleton is sprinkled with rooster's blood while the gatherers chant a pagan fertility poem. The anointed bones are then carried to their resting place in a hillside grave.

Dame Beatrice is quite interested in Fenella's adventures, for the psychiatrist is looking into the murder of the squire of Seven Wells, Sir Bathy Bitton-Bittadon. The man was found with a knife in his back, and it appears the murderer then threw Sir Bathy over a wall that surrounds his land. When Fenella makes a later visit to the More to Come, she is surprised to find that the landlord and staff have been replaced by a group of strangers. Enquiries on the Shurrocks' sudden absence produce sinister warnings from the villagers. And another unpleasant discovery is in store: within the crypt beneath the inn, Fenella comes across five freshly laid out human skeletons.

Meddling and Murder looks to be the fourth in Ovidia Yu's fun Aunty Lee series, set in Singapore. I don't usually do pre-orders, but it is currently on pre-order at £1.99 at Kindle UK and $3.99 at Kindle US. Earlier titles, except for a brief pricing error at Kobo South Africa (IMS), have generally been much more, so I bit on the £1.99 pre-order at Kindle UK. It does appear that there has been a publisher change, from William Morrow to HarperCollins' Killer Reads, which may explain some of the difference in pricing. In any case, I've really liked the first three books, and am very much looking forward to the fourth book on April 28, 2017.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Meddling-Murd...dp/B01MQFCSVL/
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MQFCSVL/

I'm having trouble getting the blurb to expand, but here is as much of it as I can get at the moment:
Spoiler:
Quote:
Rosie ‘Aunty’ Lee, amateur sleuth and proprietor of Singapore’s best-loved home-cooking restaurant, finds herself in the middle of a missing person’s case after she offers the services of her helper Nina to ambitious businesswoman Beth Kwuan, whose own maid has disappeared.

Free today on Amazon UK - The Stalker by Sally Spencer

Spoiler:
Since her husband’s suicide, Beth Baker has been living a life of quiet desperation…

She knows she is not spending enough time with her young children, nor enough at the law firm in which she is a junior partner.

The roof of her house leaks, the bills keep pouring in, and however hard she works, there is never enough money to go round. The future looks bleak.

Then – totally unexpectedly – life improves.

Her creditors are suddenly more patient and forgiving. And even more strikingly, she starts winning more cases in the criminal courts. Lots more cases!

Cases which everyone agrees she should never have won…

It is this improbable run of successes that sets warning bells ringing in the offices of the district attorney and the chief of police – which, in turn, leads to a reluctant Sergeant Sam Brody, being placed in charge of the investigation to find out who she is bribing.

But there are no bribes, nor have her creditors suddenly grown more charitable.

Acting behind the scenes – manipulating everything – is a man who likes to think of himself as her guardian angel.

On cold winter evenings, when she hurries from her car to the house – he is there.

On spring weekend afternoons, as she busies herself in her small garden – he follows her every move.

His mission is to protect her, and if, in the process, other people are hurt – or even end up dead – that is fine with him.

But Beth must be careful. It won’t take much to turn her protector into a tormentor…

For the francophones among us, I just noticed that a huge number (86) of Agatha Christie titles in French are only $1.99 at Kindle US. Although I haven't really looked all that closely, these appear to be the same "Masque Christie" editions sold at Amazon UK and Amazon France for £5-ish and €5-ish. Oh yeah, and $5.99 at Kobo US...

Anyway, I'm not sure if these are the "normal" prices here in the US, or if this is a sale of some sort, or even a (massive) pricing error, but here's a link for all 86:

Free on Amazon UK today - Who Saw Him Die? by J M Gregson

Spoiler:
Tom Harrison has been a widower for seven years now…

He still lives in his old family home along with his son, Trevor, daughter-in-law, Ros, and their two small children.

Of his four housemates, Tom only really gets on with his grandchildren; his relationship with Trevor is difficult, lacking the easy camaraderie and bantering nature of his relationship with his only daughter, who resides in New Zealand.

Despite this, it has never occurred to Tom to find other living arrangements — Trevor is still family, and after all the two of them own the house together.

But Trevor, a social worker, helps give ex-prisoners a new start in life by housing them at the large mansion, allowing them to do odd jobs around the house, and encouraging them to go out and build new careers.

This state of affairs is not one particularly pleasing to Tom, who is unsure whether he and his grandchildren ought to be living with a family that includes con men, armed robbers, and murderers.

When Trevor unfolds plans to extend the property create more rooms for additional ex-cons, Tom is furious — it’s bad enough with the men who are already there, but to add even more is, to him, entirely unacceptable.

Refusing to consider Trevor’s plans or modify his views, he declares his intention to sell the house…an action that threatens not only each person living there, but the entire programme Trevor is so proud of.

An untimely death disrupts the household far more immediately than Tom’s plans of selling — and when the CID arrive, they make no secret of their suspicions of the ex-prisoners in residence.

As their enquiries proceed, DI Peach begins to uncover secrets both surprising and shocking. Life will never again be the same for the Harrison family.

Anyone might be guilty of murder.

The real question: who saw him die?

Some men are being let go, and the ones who remain are being held to a higher standard, including not sleeping with witnesses or reporters for information, unless absolutely necessary.

Inspector Pilgrim, the star of Scotland Yard, is looking for help investigating the robbery, since his regular sergeant is sick.

He chooses PC Braddock, new to the force. As they investigate the robbery, Pilgrim teaches him the tricks of the trade.

Visiting his brother in law, who has connections to the seedier part of London, he gets a list of men with the skill needed to blow a safe using gelignite.

As they start to make their way through the list, a body shows up on Kensington high Street, outside a boarding home for single career girls in the city…

Pilgrim and Braddock soon learn that several of the women have been drugged, only to wake to find their handbags and one shoe missing.

Now they find themselves investigating three cases.

The body turns out to be that of Mr. Sigmund Preedy, a notorious womaniser.

When Pilgrim visits the shop where the girls work, none of them recognise his picture, but pilgrim learns one girl returned to her home in Sheffield just after the murder.

Now, he only has to track her down.

Meanwhile, they work their way through the names on his list, Pilgrim knowing they are getting closer.

But how will a ballet dancer, a clown that has been dead for years, and a little boy with a bandaged nose lead him to the robbers?

Spoiler:
Donald Grant, a flame-haired young sports journalist with a bright future ahead of him, lives and works in London. Yet he remains every inch a Scot…

So, when his boss and fellow Scotsman, irascible News Editor ‘Bulldog’ McPhail, diverts him from the sports pages and asks him to investigate the murder of an apparent ‘down and out’ in Soho, Donald relishes a trip back to his childhood home.

For McPhail senses that the roots of the murder, and thus their story, lie not in London, but in Kintyre.

And so the two men travel north from London to Scotland.

But they are not the only ones making that journey…

Almost as soon as Donald and Bulldog set foot in Scotland, strange things start to happen. Coincidences, surely?

For who knows, or cares, where they are?

One young lady from London does, it seems…

Soon, the two men begin to build a picture of the local community, and in particular, the events surrounding the atomic centre recently built there.

Could this be the key to the Soho murder?

For on the surface, the area in which they find themselves seems quiet, old-fashioned, at times even genteel – Lady Mary Kennedy, for example, seems particularly keen to proffer hospitality.

But is this secluded part of Scotland all that it seems? Or is the extreme secrecy that surrounds the atomic centre hiding a dangerous, even murderous, secret?

When the corpse of one of its scientists is found hanging, suspicions about the atomic centre are raised even further.
But is the source of evil really there, or somewhere much less obvious?
