I think I found another bug: when I try to send an epub-file to the kepler via bluetooth, it fails. If I rename the file to .txt, I can send it without a hitch... I've emailed onyx a few weeks ago but no reply so far. Can anyone confirm the problem?
thanks, sharkcow |

I tried. I used a Samsung Tab S2. For the transfer I used ES FileExplorer Pro. Already when sending there was an error: release error.

Text to speech in OReader?
Has anyone been successful using the TTS via the action menu on the pre-installed OReader that comes with the kepler pro? I got Bluetooth audio working but can't hear anything when I try to use the OReader TTS (plus it seems to crash the program).
BTW, I received my Kepler Pro fully charged from Banggood and it was English interface right from startup. The firmware is the latest one as well. However I would've never known about the back button via previous page button hack or about the long press on the next page button to refresh had I not been brought to this forum via Google search. So thank you for that - it's immensely helpful! |

A rebrand (not a clone) -- as is very common in the European market, where many (most?) distributors insist on putting their own brands on Onyx's (and Boyue's) products.
The specs page is here, and reveals that it upgrades the base Kepler Pro's CPU from 1.0 GHz to 1.2 GHz and is 15g heavier. Will be available in 2017, with some resellers going as low as 160 Euro. Interesting. |

Yes, bt audio works and TTS works via FBReader with the additional FBReader TTS plugin app installed but doesn't work for me with OReader or with AlReader (which seems to be the full version of OReader). I'm hoping to not have to use two different ereading apps, but so far I have use AlReader for reading and FBReader for TTS.

V1.8.0
Today I saw the update 1.80 for the Kepler pro at http://www.onyx-international.com.
Has someone already tried? I would not like to lose TTS and the Android back function. |

New firmware update
Quote:
Some of the problems I had before, like TTS not working in OReader, are now fixed. I really like the update overall. I don't like that the refresh button is now the Home button but I guess that's necessary to quickly get out of some 3rd party apps while if they are set to full screen mode. Maybe there is some other way to access the refresh screen functionality and I just haven't found it yet. There is also an additional icon on the top right hand side of the screen next to the close-all-apps icon. It toggles between a left and right arrow and an up and down button if you click on it. I have no idea what this is for. I'd really appreciate it if someone can enlighten me! |

Finally got the update to download, installed fine. I have posted the updated interface information, as well as a summary of all the key bits and pieces of information that we've gleaned throughout the ten pages of this mammoth thread, to a new 'updates and info' thread, where it'll be easier for people to find.

Also, having a 'Home' button (be it hardware or software) is a core requirement of the Android specification. This may have made them decide that it was a more important use of their very small stock of button pushes (two push-lengths, on three buttons, of which the power button already has its two reserved for sleep and power on/off).

I am very interested by this e-book. I do want an e-book reader and this one looks like a good one.But i also to try some kind of a new use for a e-ink tablet. I want to test it as a map reader while hiking (i develop my own android app), so i do need an android e-ink tablet.
Now i have 2 questions before i commit to this one: - you can read kindle books with it, right?(i plan on buying the Kindle Unlimited) - Can someone report on an average battery life? Thanks a lot for that great forum and all the precious info! |
