It's not so much of finding something to my liking as it is finding something that I haven't seen among movies I've seen and do like (so I know the poster and I share something of a common taste). I've been marking the ones I haven't seen in red so that I can find them later easily in the thread. "Some Like it Hot" was just too funny for words. AND, they even filmed it at one of my favorite places on earth ... the Hotel Del Coronado in the San Diego area in California. I still love going there ... although they've built up the area in front of it so much that it's not as mystical an experience as it used to be ... when you'd drive up the Strand through a dense fog, and then this fairy tale castle would appear in the fog. That's how I thought of it anyway ... then they built condos and other crap, and just ruined a perfectly good mystical experience. ![]() |

I loved his Hamlet. It really works for me that Branagh moved it out of it's (pseudo)historical setting; it sort of puts greater focus on the play and I'm less distracted by knowing that Kronborg was build (as a castle) in Shakepspeare's own time and that the earlier version of the story behind the play is somewhat different from Shakespeare's Hamlet. In this adaptation, Hamlet is most definitely Shakespeare's and no-one elses (well, perhaps Branagh's, too, a bit).

On the topic of Agatha Christie; I recently watched Rene Clair's film of 'And Then There Were None' which was very good. 'Witness for the Prosecution' is another Christie adaptation worth a watch on a rainy afternoon ![]() Last edited by Sparrow; 07-02-2008 at 04:25 PM. Reason: Film title confusion |

I lived in a town, with a small-town cinema, at the time the film was out, so I first saw the abridged 2.5 hours version. Then I decided it was worth traveling to the nearest bigger city to watch the full-length version. Wow! |

I know we're talking movies, but I just had to say that the book version of that one was great. Christie may not have been the most innovative writer, but when she's good, she's really good in her field.

I don't know if they ever made a movie of Ackroyd. It would be hard to pull of the twist at the end ... which really sort of requires it to be in book form. |

But .... it still makes me wonder how they pulled off the literary trick?? I don't want to blow it for anyone who hasn't read it ... but, you know what I mean??
