ROFL I just tried your "Is it going to snow tomorrow?" to Google Now and got a "No snow is expected tomorrow. The forecast is..." I actually didn't know that would work.

Yes she will speak both hours and miles to you. She talks way more than the other mention. I can't say for Siri. I think she is probably still the best from some of the reviews I have seem and yes competition is good.

Ask Google Now who created you? I got a bible version read to me. I asked Cortana and she tells me she's not sure but she knows humans were involved in creating her.

Yeah asking questions is fun! I'm practicing for Alexa.

What's nice with Google Now on the Moto X is you don't need those two steps--no need to touch the thing.

I've asked it stuff while lying on the bed when it was across the room charging, and get many of my ToDos added whenever I think of them, as long as the phone is within "earshot" and it's not noisy.

Does it have keyword like Alexa does? LG Volt has Hello Genie but lock screen must be on.
MS is working on making Cortana hands free.

No hands free but from lock screen Google works on my LG Volt or Nexus 7.

Yes, I have the Moto X 2nd gen as well. It utilizes and expands on Google Now. Instead of "OK Google", you train it with your own launch phrase such as "Hi Ho Silver" or "OK Shirley" or whatever (3 syllables or more is recommended). Certain things like "Talk to me" to have it announce calls/texts for 30/minutes and "Good night" to put it in silent, night mode are handled directly by the Motorola software while others such as the ones we were discussing earlier are passed off to Google Now to handle. The phone can be locked and asleep and will respond to the launch phrase thanks to a low power always on processor. As jj2me mentioned, I have had my phone charging on the other side of the room and launched stuff with it as I'm on my way to get it. It's especially great while driving to be able to launch navigation or answer calls/texts without having to touch the phone.

What would be really cool is if you could actually have Cortana, Google Now, and Siri all carry on a conversation similar to that Microsoft commercial.

Anyone using their 520 as a PHONE?

I've mostly been using it as GPS (Here Drive+) and music player (Pandora and Mix radio).
One note is a good enough to-do and shopping list for me, and it syncs to my android phones perfectly. I have the Kindle app installed as well as BookVisor reader.

The size is very pocketable, more so than my other phones, so I'm thinking of getting a cheap pay as you go plan from H2O, Airvoice or PureTalk (all AT&T based) so I could just take the 520 when I don't want to carry multiple electronic devices around. I do miss some android apps, but it seems like the best compromise when the other phones are too large. But how's the call quality?

PS, I just asked Cortana what she thinks of Alexa and she said "I'll have to think about that a while. Could take me a while. Don't wait up."

Not me.

I finally cleaned my 520. I uninstalled every pre-loaded app I could and transferred the rest to the SD card (some apps can't be uninstalled and/or transferred). That left me with about 4.5GB of free onboard storage.

The only apps I'm using are music and audiobook apps. No maps, no camera, no Cortana, no MixRadio, etc. In fact, the only pre-installed apps I'm using are the FM Radio and Store.

It's a pretty good music and audiobook player, though I'd love to see more apps available. I love the speaker; it's very loud. Wish the LG Volt had this speaker.
