Especially knowing that other people got it for $99! Amazon may really have antagonized a portion of their customer base with this. It's one thing to send out targeted emails with special deals; it's another to mine their customers to assess interest levels and then reject them.

I work from home, and have all my music uploaded to the Amazon Cloud. Also have lots (50+) playlists. I am hoping Echo will be useful. I have speakers, but connecting them to my computer and then working on that same computer is a pain. I haven't used Prime Music a lot, for that very reason, and hope I can do so with the Echo.

I have no idea if I will like it or not. I will report back. And I agree-I wouldn't pay a penny over $99.

I really don't care if Amazon keeps track of my commands-I rarely use the Amazon recommendations, I go on Amazon when I am looking to buy something. Have actually found them very good for buying zippers! Separating zippers in specific colors-forget my local fabric store. I order a zipper when I start knitting a sweater, and by the time I finish, the zipper is here (takes about a week). I needed a 6" grey separating zipper-I would never have found that at my fabric store (and I refuse to go into Hobby Lobby, but they didn't have a good selection anyway) and it will be here tomorrow! Along with my Echo.

There is a Buy It Again button, and it comes up at $199. In my opinion, they aren't going to sell many at that price. In addition, the fact that they just offered it for $99 will not go unnoticed. I suppose they will include a free year of Prime, but if you already have Prime, that does nothing.

Hhmmm, if there's a buy it again button for $199, they should make it available to the general public now. I did a search for the Echo and it still comes up as a by-invitation-only item.

Did you try clicking Buy It Again to see if it would let you? That may just be the default Buy It Again that's always there.

Still no invitation, and at this point, I guess I won't get one. I haven't rated their latest devices favorably, so that may have to do with it. I'm sure they would want to start off with good reviews, have them rated helpful, to ensure they'll be at the top, before sending these out to more buyers.

I have rated the Kindles highly, but have not said very much. If that is the criteria, I would not have made the cut.

Well, it just came. Surprised, because UPS is usually 4:30 pm. Heavier than I expected-feels and looks nice. Packaged in a plain black box, similar to a Kindle Fire. In the box is the Echo, Power adapter, remote and batteries (AA) and a magnetic remote holder. Was supposed to be an adhesive strip for the remote holder, but that is missing

I was wrong-it is a black adhesive strip, and it is packaged with the remote holder. Setup was really easy. I am really having a time getting the remote open-will post again after I try it out.
