My HD6 got OTA update to 4.5.1 today.
- Family Library support
- Prime Music Stations
- lock screen playback controls

Finally you can see if a collection item is 'on device' or not. But they have found yet another way to screw up collections. Previously (and on every other app/device that supports cloud collections) you could add to and remove from in one operation (in other words, perform a 'move'). Now you have to do that in two separate operations.

Prime Music Stations is nice but without a lot of granularity (only 34 Stations so far). You can at least thumb up/down (I assume that works somewhat like Pandora).

I set up Family Library as well. This will be nice for couples who now share a single account: each person can now have their own collections, font settings, reading position, notes/highlights, sharing options etc. But it looks like you will need a PW2 or later Kindle, or 2013 or later Fire. I'm hoping iOS/Android Kindle apps will be able to participate as well at some point.

I'm glad to see that my HD7 2013 will in fact be getting this update.

The reading features are about the same but highlighting options are a bit of a regress: it takes an extra tap to do things that only required one tap before: highlighting and search for example.

And it looks like Accessibility is more than a little broken: with Screen Reader turned on, when I try to open a book, it shows the cover splash, then dumps me back to Home screen without opening anything. I can't can't seem to open any books (or docs) at all! Even when I pause it, open the book, and un-pause from notifications, it closes the book! Fortunately I don't need to use Screen Reader, but it is a pretty serious regression for people who do need it.

Yeah same here but Display Brightness which is the new dimmer app I am using works greats. It allows you go negative brightness without messing with contrast. It on Google Play. There is a free version with ads and paid one without Ads. After seeing how awesome the free app was I brought the Pro and sideloaded it with no problems on my Kindle Fire. Sometimes paid apps from Play work but most of the time you get licensing errors. No problems with this one. The Paid one just remove ads from the setting page.

Oh it looks like Amazon app store has the free one here. Not sure if it's the latest version or not which has negative brightness.

I already updated my HD7 2013 and I can tell you it ate my collections. There were small so I am no too upset but for someone who has a large one I can see how that would be upsetting.

The Amazon Appstore's version of Display Brightness is not the latest version. But a sideloaded paid Google Play version works just fine.

Thanks was wondering about that because I sideloaded the free and paid and both work from Google Play to fix the brightness issue. I uninstalled Screen Dim as it's no longer needed.

That's the app I am currently using. It works great. I just wish amazon would fix these kind of things. You would think that they would want the reading experience to be excellent so as to encourage people to purchase more books.

It is funny that my 2013 HD got the update today, but my HD6 is still waiting. On the 2013 the map app is nice from just a cursory look, but the calculator app seems a bit lame. Much prefer the Office Calculator in the Amazon app store. My collections stayed intact, not really noticing much else that's different. Looked like a big update though, it took awhile to install and restart.

Yeah, I agree. Looks like something that comes up in the bottom of search results in an app store. Installed by a handful of people.

Just got it last night. One thing I really like is that the new update unlocks the lock screen as soon as you put your password in, you don't have to hit "OK". It isn't a huge thing, but makes it more convenient for password lock.
