IP67 certified, which means fully dustproof (the '6' bit) and waterproof up to at least 1m for at least 30 minutes (the '7' bit), like Harry says.

So we're talking bathtub

It's quoted as 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. I just read one review where they say they dropped it into a bubble bath and it worked fine after being dried.

yea, I wish Kobo invested the time it spent on waterproof research and developing in making a minimally acceptable e-ink reader in terms of light, plain bezels and that stuff that should be basic on every e-reader. Those "things" are not precisely cheap, we're not spending 70-80 bucks on them. Instead they still have very deficient software and hardware (devices which stuck on PDF's and which are not even able to pinch in/out, and which have absolute no utility. In fact we're still reading on black and white!! Come one spend your time researching for color e-ink screens instead of that water proof sh*t lol. Who reads under the bath tub or swimming pool? Now I would have to buy specialized glasses to read under water? Lol. I supose this is only the result of a stupid company which intends to be clever. By the way, I'm sorry about the Kobo owners who I offended when I talked about the dark geometric figures and shadows of the Kobos. I'm sorry that the screen is far from a minimum basic quality to read without annoyances. On the other side, I'm sorry if I offended Kindle owners who have that Amazon smartphone-size e-readers. Well, as you can see if you're objective enough, the ebook scene is still pretty pathetic. So I really wanted you guys to say which one is not the worse in your humble opinion... as all I see are defects and a very poor design and quality in both sides, in different aspects. I would be ashamed to ask 179€/199€ for such pieces of cr.. But we need something to read on, right?

You seem terribly bitter about something, karter. I have both a Kobo H2O and a Kindle Voyage. Both are excellent to read on, from my perspective.

If you like neither device, what device do you prefer to read on?

Karter I have been reading on e-ink ereaders since 2009, I've worked my way through 14 different models and I can honestly say my three main current ereaders, the Kobo Aura H20, The Kobo Glo and the Kindle Paperwhite 2 are excellent.

You can't come on these forums and moan about everything basically calling us idiots for reading on them and expect answers to very vague questions. Most of us don't see the problems you claim exist. And as for PDFs, e-ink readers are not designed to display them, PDFs are not proper ebooks, they are designed for a PC screen.

Also we don't need colour screens to read on, black and White is perfectly acceptable. Kobo and Amazon don't make the screens, they can only design ereaders around the screens e-ink produce.

Hi there Chi Cygni. Kobo was "so clever" that designed a waterproof ereader with a big size so you can't wear it everywhere inside your pocket. So it contradicts the need of a waterproof ereader.

True, but some ereaders manage it much better than kobo. Kobo should have spent that wasted time in waterproof research, in quality software, design and hardware instead, having in mind that the lightning is very, very far from perfection, with those dark shades and other annoyances which, sincerely, if you're regular readers, must find it very disappointing. I even feel disappointed when I find an irregularity in a paper page in a book that I like, like a stain, lighter font, and so on; how would I feel if I had to visualize that stain (shadow, lightning unevenness, etc) on every page of every book? Lightning is VERY, VERY important, and these companies are losing their time not working for what human readers really need: a device which drops no complaints about its BASIC features: Lightning and Design. Both KOBO and Amazon receive a FAIL in this exam. KOBO has a worse mark than AMAZON in the lightning section, and both KOBO and Amazon have a -5 in design: KOBO because of those primitive raised bezels which drop undesiderable shadows and feeling, and because of page turn buttons lack. AMAZON because of the primitive smartphone size for a 200€ / 219$ device. Ereaders are made ONLY to read, and what else can we expect from a device which is made ONLY to read if not at least a perfect screen? Shameful.

Karter none of us want to read your ranting anymore. I have no idea why you suddenly decided to subject us to your views but considering Kobo and Amazon are the leaders in this market I doubt any ereader would meet your exacting standards.

I can only suggest you find something else to complain about.

Karter, here is some advice for you:
If you are happy reading on your smartphone when you are out of the house, then save your money and keep reading on your smartphone when you are at home. Very likely your phone will have better lighting than any eink screen with built-in frontlight.

I completely agree. Karter WE DON'T CARE. Just shut up already.

But personally, I don't want to hear you complaining about anything else, either.
