I suppose it's more work for developers to keep their apps compatible with several OSes. But it's not as bad as it used to be, since you can still download the last version compatible with your OS. I once thought of using iMovie to edit a video I was working on while on the road, but I couldn't because I hadn't yet updated my iPad and iTunes refused to sell it to me. I bought another app instead and never bought iMovie even after I upgraded the iPad.

Settings --> iTunes & App Store --> Updates option. Uncheck it.

The latter is a relief! But its a pain when you go to do a sync on the computer and it complains that it cant because you need a newer OS. On the matter of the former, it may be more work for the devs but in fact many of them are not even trying, they are simply creating for iOS8.

It makes you wonder, really, given that Stanza with absolutely no effort, works perfectly well in 8 (except for the restricted screen size but functionally fine except for the Amazon muckups) and so does my old Shopping list app (Shoplist... again with restricted screen size but functionally just fine)...one wonders then why more recent apps cannot be as reliable... I don't think its about the work, TBH.

Thank you both! I have everything unchecked, though it's weird because I remember that for a long time updates were downloaded without my approval or knowledge, and I don't remember changing these settings, but I suppose I must have.

And it's probably prudent to check them again after OS upgrades.

If I remember correctly, after iOS 7 was released there was a huge outcry from people complaining to Apple that they did not want the updates automatically downloaded and stored on their devices. Apple at some point decided to listen, a rare thing for companies like Apple, and they promised to give us the ability to block the update downloads from automatically happening plus they gave us the ability to delete update downloads that we don't want. However, they still pester us to update with a constant reminder message. Oh well...baby steps I guess.

I have now lost my MarvinXD / Calibre connection and Calibre keeps unistalling IOSRA. Already lost connection with ibooks to itunes with ios 8.0 now with 8.02 Marvin too. grr beginning to hate ios. I have ios 8.02 installed in my ipad but it sure hasn't fixed anything..

You do know you can access your calibre library direct from Marvin, raather than accessing Marvin from Calibre. IN many ways its easier and less messy than having to use a plugin. Get books-->opds-->search local network---> calibre server
OR once you get to opds, http://your.computer.IP:8080/opds for a permanent link if your computer retains its internal IP

You do have to turn on the calbre web server via the preferences. preferences->preferences->sharing over the net

It's how I normally add books to my device. I use the Marvin plugin to sync the other info, such as reading %, reading list etc.

Or you could simply carry you new iPad Air 2. You can buy things with it too, I think.

Edit: I think I was wrong. I can't find any NFC stuff on the Air 2 which would be required. Too bad I think.

Nope. You can make online purchases using the iPad, but it doesn't have the NFC to make physical purchases in stores.
