Today I received 2 e-mails from Amazon. The first told me that the light bulbs I had ordered had shipped. The second told me that they were applying a $1 promotional credit to my account, expiring 31 December 2014.

As I recall, this has been the pattern for each of the "slow shipping" orders that I have placed. Leaves no question whether or not the credit was applied, nor when it expires.

Uh oh.

This evening I purchased a CD and put it on "no rush" shipping, and they informed me that I would receive a dollar's credit toward an eBook or digital music or video.

Note that I did not receive a credit for a future print book purchase. I have saved a number of dollars buying print books with the "no rush" credit, but I guess that that party is over.

I've only selected no rush shipping 3-4 times. The biggest problem is that my shopping cart is aways full, so when I need to purchase just one or two things out of it, I do it via 1click checkout. The second problem is that I usually don't want to wait for my stuff, but when I can, I'll continue to use it. It will help offset some of the more expensive ebooks.

Heads up: I recently had $4 in no rush shipping credits go missing, or else they never posted to my account, even though I got the emails. I didn't discover this until I bought a kindle book and no credit was applied. I spent two days chatting with Amazon Customer Service, all they wanted to do was transfer me to someone else. (They are seriously trigger happy on the transfer. I wonder if they are paid by the person, or they have a metric of how little time they are supposed to spend with each customer.) Finally I said "DO NOT TRANSFER ME" and the CSR just gave me $4 in credits. They never did figure out why the credits had gone missing, and I'm still disturbed by it.

My mo is to pick super-slow shipping when I don't care when something comes, but to let it go after that. I get the credit or I don't; it's applied or it isn't. It's not worth it in time or annoyance to pursue it.

I agree that it wouldn't be worth the time to pursue the credit, but that's why I always go with the Prime shipping, even if I don't care about the arrival time. I know myself, and if I chose the $1 credit, I WOULD waste the time to get that darn buck, berating myself the whole time for being foolish.

I must say that this new "digital content" credit is a big improvement. I can actually see the credits now, so I can more easily track them and make sure they are being applied. I'm holding on to mine for now; I might need to use them to get e-books to get some whispersync matches when I get my Buy 4 Get $10. After that I'll be funneling them towards mp3s.
